Masculine nouns are words for men, boys and male animals. Feminine nouns are words for women, girls and female animals.

feminine niece queen princess empress witch actress policewoman waitress

Many nouns are used for both males and females. They are called common gender nouns.

With animals, there is one general word for the animal and special words for the male and the female.
animal rabbit horse sheep pig masculine buck stallion ram boar feminine doe mare ewe sow

chicken cattle

Rooster bull

hen cow

Sometimes the word for the male animal is the same as the general word.
animal fox tiger lion masculine fox tiger lion feminine vixen tigress lioness

Sometimes the word for the female animal is the same as the general word.
animal goose duck masculine gander drake feminine goose duck

Change the masculine nouns in these sentences into feminine nouns.

My father has two sons. The twin babies are brothers. A king's son is a prince. The boy helped the old man across the road. Grandfather Jones is my uncle's father.
