Inordertoidentifythechallengesandsuccesses communitieshavehadincountinghomeless youth,thismonththeCaliforniaHomeless YouthProjectreleasedareport,Hiddenin PlainSight:AnAssessmentofYouthInclusion inPointinTimeCountsofCalifornia's UnshelteredHomelessPopulation,highlighting bestpracticesforcountingunaccompanied minorsandtransitionageyouthexperiencing homelessness. ThisNCHEpublicationprovidesanoverviewof researchonresilienceforatriskchildrenand youth,includingthoseexperiencing homelessness.Theconceptofresiliencehas receivedincreasedattentionrecentlyina

growingbodyofliteraturethathasreported notonlythepsychologicalandacademic impactsofhomelessness,butalsohas highlightedwaystostrengthentheresilienceof childrenandyouthexperiencinghomelessness.

IncollaborationwiththeHollywoodHomeless YouthPartnership,theUSCSchoolofSocial Workutilizedanagencybasedapproachto countandsurveyallhomelessyouthentering theirfacilitiesandencounteredduringtheir outreachactivities.BetweenOctober19and October25,2012,460uniquehomelessyouth werecountedandsurveyedinHollywood.Of these,222experiencedliteralhomelessnesson thenightofOctober18,2012,and381 experiencedliteralhomelessnesswithinthe previousyear.

TheChildWelfareInitiative'sTransitionAge YouthHousingandServicesRoadmap:ABest PracticesFrameworkidentifieshowtoexpand thecapacityandscopeofserviceprogramsfor transitionageyouthinLosAngelesCounty.The Frameworkproposeschangestoprovider practicesandpubliccontractsthatwillallow transitionageyouthtoreceivemoreeffective assistanceingreaternumbers. Recommendationsaremadeatthecountylevel usingexistingresources.
