A retro route to The French Ardennes in a legendary Citröen 2CV
Visitors to The French Ardennes this summer will be amongst the first
to have the chance to drive through the region‟s historic villages and
rolling countryside behind the wheel of a Citröen 2CV, Ami 8 or Renault 4L.Launched on May 1
st
, the new venture is the brainchild of RétroScapade, and will give holiday makers the chance to rent thelegendary French car for one day, a weekend, or an entire week.Various packages will be available, and most will have a variety of optional extras - adding to the simple thrill of being able to drive abrightly coloured and convertible 2CV through the country lanes of one of the most hidden corners of rural France.Packages can be tailor-made to suit the holiday maker, but some of the off-the-shelf ideas include a one-day-
minimum “
Vallées desLégendes
” (the valleys
of legends
) from €159, with an option toinclude time at some of the Meuse Valley‟s top attractions, or a
separate e-bike ride along the TransArdennes Green Track.Simple four-hour tours are also available, f
rom €99. But
RétroScapade aims to also offer tailor-made packages - includingaccommodation in everything from tree-houses through to boutiquehotels in castles; food-and-drink, from picnic baskets to leadingrestaurants; and fully guided tours.Further details are available on Facebook at https://fr-fr.facebook.com/Retroscapade,as well as at www.retroscapade.com.  Cars can either be picked-up from RétroScapade in Domaine de laMotte in Signy-le-Petit, or delivered to train stations or hotels for collection.Other new holiday experiences in The French Ardennes for the
summer include a new “Pair Descent” option on one of the longest zip
wires in Europe, at TerrAltitude in the Meuse Valley. Allowing twopeople to ride the zip wire (which reaches speeds of up to 100kph)side-by-
side, it‟s being called “an
experience for anyone looking for
something new and original”. Further details can be seen at
http://www.terraltitude.com/en/.  Also new for 2013 are two new audio and leaflet trails (in English)through the amazing Fortress of Sedan
 –
the largest fortress in
Northern Europe. “Mille ans d‟histoire” (a thousand
years of history)
and “Sedan, une principauté” (Sedan, a principality) will offer visitors
new ways to discover more about this 6
th
century fortress.
A new leaflet “Circuits de mémoire” (a memorial circuit), with five
themed itineraries covering the impact of the Franco-Prussian War,First World War and Second World War on the Sedanais region, meanwhile, are also available in English from the local touristinformation centres.
