Park District Information

Who Are The Residents of Huntley Park District? Conduct/Participant Guidelines
You are considered a resident of the Huntley Park District if you pay taxes to the district and reside in our boundaries. A resident must show proof of residency (utility bill).

Importance of Registering Early

Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. 1. Show respect to all participants and staff. 2. Refrain from use of foul language. 3. Show respect for equipment and facilities. 4. Dress appropriately for activities.

The Huntley Park District staff must set registration deadlines for a variety of programs. Registration deadlines are created due to the time frame it takes for staff to organize, order equipment, form rosters and create schedules. If a patron registers after the deadline or the program is filled prior to the deadline, they will be put onto a waiting list, but being enrolled on a waitlist does NOT guarantee eventual enrollment. Waitlists are taken up until one week before the program begins. Please make an effort to register early. Popular programs do fill up quickly and space is limited. For programs that do not state a registration deadline, please realize for all programs to run efficiently, registration must take place one week prior to the beginning of the first class/ program date.

Discipline

The Huntley Park District will use a positive approach regarding discipline. The HuntleyPark District reserves the right to dismiss a participant. Each situation will be evaluated on its own merit. The purpose of discipline is to help a child develop selfcontrol and learn to assume responsibility for his or her own actions. We use positive statements and reinforcements to redirect negative behavior. Should a child need more than that, a time-out period may be initiated. We will handle disruptive behavior in the following manner: 1. The parent/guardian will be informed of the specific behavior. A memo will be given to the parent and a copy will be kept in the childs file. 2. If the behavior continues, the instructor will inform parents a second time. 3. If there is no change in behavior, your child will be dismissed from the class/program; a refund will be issued for the remaining class days. Each situation will be evaluated on its own merit. Disruptive behavior is defined as any behavior that causes, or could lead to, personal injury of your child or others. Examples:hitting, kicking, throwing things, defying or running away, or any behavior that disrupts the normal class climate. Disruptive behavior, in the broad sense, is any behavior that takes an instructor away from the rest of the class for long periods of time. The Huntley Park District reserves the right to remove a participant whose behavior endangers the safety of themselves and others.

Facility Rental

Huntley Park District has picnic shelters and rooms available for rent at a nominal rate. Please call Nancy at 847-669-3180 x301 for more information.

Photos/Video

Photos are periodically taken of participants in class, special events and at HuntleyPark Districts parks and facilities. Please be aware that these photos are for Huntley Park District use only and may be used in the Districts publications, website and marketing.

Suggestion Box

The Huntley Park District has a suggestion box in the registration office at the REC Center. We are looking for your creative ideas in programming. We strive to do our best for the community and any suggestion you have will help us to better serve you. Please drop off or e-mail any suggestions you have to info@huntleyparks.org.

Lost Items

ATVs, Scooters, Bikes & All Motorized Vehicles

Personal items brought to the Huntley Park District are the responsibility of the individual. If something becomes lost, please check with the registration desk staff.

The use of motorized vehicles in our parks is strictly prohibited. No ATVs, dirt bikes or electric scooters are allowed in the Huntley Park District parks. Please be aware that the use of such vehicles inside the parks will result in the police being notified and action taken. These vehicles disrupt the community and cause damage to our parks. We would like to keep our parks beautiful and peaceful and to maintain an atmosphere of relaxation for our guests. We appreciate your cooperation.

Huntley Park District Receives Accreditation by State Associations

The Huntley Park District has been named a distinguished accreditation agency by the Accreditation Review Board of Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association. This is the highest accreditation possible in the state of Illinois. By dedicating the time to successfully complete the accreditation process, the Huntley Park District has shown a commitment to meeting the highest standards in the park and recreation profession. Agencies are reviewed in general management, finance and business, operations, facilities and parks, personnel, recreation services and legal. Key components of the accreditation process were the district-wide Comprehensive Plan and the American with Disability Act park and facility audits, both completed in 2011. A complete review of current policies and the development and recommendation of required polices were provided by the staff to the Board of Commissioners. The staff and Board worked diligently over a two year period to complete this process, demonstrating our commitment to sound business practices as a local governmental agency, said Huntley Park District Executive Director Thom Palmer. This accreditation confirms our commitment to providing excellent programs, services, events, facilities and parks to our residents and visitors, and we appreciate the recognition from our state associations.

Submerge and swim a distance of 10 feet underwater. Participants will learn about the causes and ways to prevent drowning and diving accidents. Lottery Swim Lesson Registration for Residents

Swim Lesson Information

The Huntley Park Districts Lottery Swim Lesson Registration process was developed to permit fair access to park district swim lessons for all our residents. By using a lottery system for program registration, you need not wait and stand in long lines to register. Lottery registration is fair for todays busy families, since you can drop it off any time before the initial deadline. WHAT is lottery? The lottery is a computerized software program that works with our current registration system. Once all lottery swim lesson registrations have been processed, the software program then randomly selects who will be registered for the class and who will be placed on a wait list. Each persons chances are the same as long as registrations are received before the lottery deadline. Remember to take advantage of the 2nd and 3rd choice options. Many lessons are in high demand and specifying alternate choices is the best way to avoid disappointment. Enrollment confirmations are then mailed to all households participating in the Lottery and should be received by May 14. Those placed on the wait list are then contacted by the Park District to make alternative arrangements. Last year, 90% received their 1st choice! WHO is eligible for Lottery swim lesson registrations? Residents of the Huntley Park District. A resident is anyone living within the geographic boundaries of the Huntley Park District. Registration is limited to only one lesson per child. WHERE do you drop off Lottery swim lesson registrations? Registration begins the day you receive your Huntley Park District Summer Brochure. Forms and payment will be accepted at the Huntley Park District REC Center Registration Office, 12015 Mill Street, Huntley, IL during office hours. Please check office hours on page 5 of the brochure. Lottery Swim Lesson Registration forms and payment will be accepted through Saturday, April 27, 2013, 1pm. The only method of registration will be by walk-in at the registration office. Payment is required at the time of registration. Non-residents or residents who miss the lottery may begin open registration on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 9am at the Huntley Park District REC Center, 12015 Mill Street, Huntley, IL. In-person registration only. Lottery Refund Policy: In special cases when enrollment may be wait listed due to a full class, a credit in the amount of the payment will be issued to the household. If the household chooses not to use the credit, the office must be contacted

before a refund check or credit to credit card can be processed. Please note we will not make changes for swim lessons unless requested in writing and at least 2 weeks in advance of the start of the class. An additional $5 fee will be charged per family. NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS WILL BE GIVEN FOR ANY SWIM LESSONS MISSED. Use swim lesson registration form on page 61 for processing.

SwimLesson Information

The park district will follow the American Red Cross guidelines for all swim levels. Please review the description of the various levels to ensure a positive experience. Stingray Bay provides lessons based on skill level, not age. If your child participated in swim lessons at Stingray Bay in 2012, there are records of which levels he/she completed and whether or not he/she passed. Please note that each child will have different abilities and will learn at his/her own pace. The instructors and manager will do their best to accommodate each participants skill level. Any child not toilet trained MUST wear an aqua diaper at all times. Aqua diapers are reusable and available for purchase at Stingray Bay ($8). Little Swimmers are not acceptable. Lessons are instructed in cool and windy weather and are only cancelled due to severe weather. The pool water is kept at 82 degrees, but may vary due to weather conditions. Make-ups will be held only if the park district cancels. No make-ups will be issued for sickness or vacations. If weather is questionable and you are unsure if lessons are being held, please call (847) 515-7665 no sooner than 30 minutes before your lesson is scheduled. To avoid busy phone lines, an update will be available on the home page of the park district at www.huntleyparks.org. Parents are asked to sit in the concession pavilion or in the grass behind the designated flags during your childs lesson. Like a school setting, children perform better when they are able to give full attention to their instructors. Under no circumstances will parents and their siblings be able to wait on the pool deck. Parents are invited to the pool deck on the last day of lessons to take pictures and see what your child has learned.

REGISTRATION FOR ADDITIONAL CLASSES BEGINS MAY 20TH.

SORRY NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS GIVEN FOR ANY LESSONS MISSED.

Skyhawk Beginning Golf - SNAG

(Age 5-9)
Skyhawks Golf focuses on building the confidence of young athletes by teaching proper technique to refine essential skills of the game. Golf is a challenging and lifelong sport, so young athletes need proper focus on the fundamentals of form, swinging, putting, and body positioning. To assist in this training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG (Starting New At Golf) system to its curriculum. SNAG utilizes a set of equipment designed for beginning golfers, including oversized plastic club heads and mini tennis balls to help build confidence and to have fun. Developed by PGA professionals, SNAG is specifically designed for the entry-level player; SNAG simplifies instruction so that young players can make an easy and effective transition onto the golf course. No need to bring your own clubs--all equipment is provided. We keep the instructor-to-camper ratio low, resulting in limited availability. These programs fill up quickly. Thor Guard Lightning Prediction System and Warning System

The Huntley Park District recently installed a Lightning Prediction System and Warning System at Stingray Bay, Tomaso Sports Park and Deicke Park. Thor Guard is a prediction system that would warn patrons and staff about potential lightning up to a 10 mile radius. When this system detects high energy it will sound one-15 second blast and strobe lights will begin to flash. All outdoor activities should cease and all persons should seek shelter in a permanent building or vehicle immediately. DO NOT SEEK SHELTER WITHIN DUGOUTS, PICNIC PAVILIONS, OR NEAR TALL OBJECTS SUCH AS FENCES, TREES, ETC. The strobe light on the system will continue to flash while there is still potential for a lightning strike. Activities should not be resumed until the system has indicated the all clear with three 5 second horn blasts and the strobe lights stop flashing.

The very nature of swimming is hazardous and risky, including but not limited to fatigue and overexertion, poor swimming skills, failing to avoid dangerous areas, horseplay, diving or cannon-balling into shallow water and striking the bottom or side of the pool, inadequate supervision or instruction, lack of conditioning, becoming disoriented, striking other swimmers, defective or inadequate equipment, striking ones head on the bottom when using a diving block, slip and falls on the deck or within the locker facility, chemical exposure and all other circumstances inherent to the sport of swimming. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Huntley Park District to guarantee absolute safety.
