s we approach this holiday season,we at Sendik’s have much to bethankful for. We have been blessedto open two new stores in the great com-munities of Greenfield and Germantown.We are thankful for the opportunities thesenew locations have given our company andthe incredible new associates and customerswe have been able to work with. This holi-day season, however, we are most thankfulto be a part of eight Greater Milwaukeecommunities that give generously to their neighbors. Nowhere has this been displayedmore to us then through the efforts thatwe have undertaken with the charitablepartners represented in this magazine.As you may know, the entire cost of thepurchase of Sendik’s Real Food magazineis donated to a local charity. So far this year,our charitable partners have been ABCD(After Breast Cancer Diagnosis), the Wis-consin Humane Society, and Second Har-vest of Wisconsin. This issue, our charitablepartner is the MACC Fund. We estimatethat through the purchase of this magazine,alone our readers will help us support theseorganizations by making an annual chari-table contribution of more than $35,000.Many thanks to our readers for helping ussupport these worthy causes.The generous nature of our customershas not been limited to purchases of thismagazine. Giving back to communities isa core value of our company. This fall, weran a number of incredible promotions tohelp underprivileged children and familiesthrough Second Harvest. With Fox 6, wepromoted “Back Pack Buddies,” in whichcustomers could purchase a “Buddy” inour stores. In exchange, Sendik’s, throughSecond Harvest, donated approximately2,000 backpacks, fully stocked with schoolsupplies for Milwaukee school kids whowould not otherwise have them. Again,thank you to our customers for helping ussupport this worthy effort.In the food business, our hope is tofeed the communities in which we operate.However, we also recognize that not all of our neighbors are able to afford meals ontheir own. For this reason, we presentedour communities with the “BUY One,GIVE One” promotion. In this promo-tion, we promised that for every packageof Kraft Macaroni and Cheese we soldwe would give one package to SecondHarvest of Wisconsin to help providemeals for those that need it most in our communities. In a similar promotion, cus-tomers had the opportunity to round uptheir purchases at the register or purchasebags of some of the most needed pantryitems for donation to Second Harvest. Asof this writing, through all of our spe-cial events and support of our customers,we have donated over 350,000 meals toSecond Harvest to help stock the foodpantries of Southeast Wisconsin that feedthe underprivileged. WOW!!Indeed, during this holiday season, weat Sendik’s we are very grateful to play ameaningful role in the communities weserve. We are thankful to be in a positionto give back to those communities throughour charitable giving, and we are humbledby the generosity of our customers thatmake it happen.
