I sat down at the edge of the murky water and stared in. Thewaterwas a deep dark green in color. I studied the water in the pool butcouldn’t tell if it was shallow or deep. It was so thick with algae thatthere was no way of telling. I kneeled over the edge and dipped afingerin. Surprisingly, the water was ice-cold. I flicked the water and watchedit ripple under the light of the torches.“Mommy?” I heard a voice whispering from the water. I leanedoverto get a better look at the dark green water. I knew that I had to behearing things. A voice couldn’t be coming from the water.“Over here,” I heard the voice whisper, “in here.”I looked intently at the dark green water. I could feel the slimy cold handgripping my wrist tightly. I plunged into the water headfirst. I tried toscream. My mouth was filled with water. I kicked my feet rapidly to tryto slow myself down. I felt my body going into shock from the icy coldchill of the water. The more I struggled, the tighter the grip becamearound my wrist.I was being pulled, down and down, deeper and deeper into thewater. I could no longer see the light of the torches through the water’s
