Geneva, 6 May 2013
-- The Independent International Commission of Inquiry onthe Syrian Arab Republic wishes to clarify that it has not reached conclusive findingsas to the use of chemical weapons in Syria by any parties to the conflict. As a result,the Commission is not in a position to further comment on the allegations at thistime.
 
The Chair of the Commission of Inquiry, Paulo Sergio Pinheiro, reminds all parties tothe conflict that the use of chemical weapons is prohibited in all circumstances undercustomary international humanitarian law.In line with its mandate, the Commission is currently investigating all allegations of violations of international law in the Syrian Arab Republic and will issue its findings tothe Human Rights Council on 3 June 2013, as mandated by resolution22/24

-- La Commission d'enquête Internationale Indépendante surla République Arabe Syrienne tient à clarifier qu'elle n'a pas atteint les résultatspermettant de conclure que des armes chimiques ont été utilisées par les parties auconflit en Syrie. En conséquence et à jour, la Commission n'est pas en mesure decommenter ces allégations davantage.
 
Le Président de la Commission d'enquête, Paulo Sergio Pinheiro, rappelle à toutes lesparties au conflit que l'utilisation d'armes chimiques est prohibée en toutescirconstances par le droit international humanitaire coutumier.Conformément à son mandat, la Commission est chargée d’enquêter et d’enregistrertoutes les allégations de violations du droit international relatif aux droits de l’hommecommises sur le territoire de la République Arabe Syrienne et présentera sesconclusions au Conseil des droits de l'homme le 3 Juin 2013, conformément à larésolution22/24.
