Meet Laura Baltz

Laura Baltz, our nursery coordinator has been a
vital part of New Life’s ministry since May 2004. She
previously held this same position at Ramsey. In
fact, our very own Pastor Tom Sweat baptized three

of Laura’s four children while she was at Ramsey.

Laura was born in Michigan and moved to Powhatan County when she was very young. She along with her husband, John, and their four children live in the house that she was raised in. She has an associate degree in child care and has been a licensed home day care provider for approximately sixteen years. She presently watchesfi ve children full time and two part time.

In addition she keeps very busy at home with her four children; Jason
and Andrew are seniors at Powhatan High School, Holly is a junior and
Caitlyn is in eighth grade. All of her children are also
involved in service at our church. The boys take part
every Sunday, at each service, in the technical ministry
program while the girls help their Mom in the nursery.

Laura says she loves children and even her volunteer
jobs involve children. She leads three different Girl
Scout troops and co-leads several others. Laura is
looking forward to coordinating a local camp for 56 girls

in April.

In her spare time (wonder where shefi nds it?), she enjoys sewing and
photography. Laura especially enjoys the sewing parties she and her
daughters have on the weekends. This past Christmas she made special
blankets for all the children in her care. Laura says her house isfi lled
with pictures. She has had a passion for taking pictures since she was a
teenager. Of course her favorite subjects are children.

We are very blessed to have such a loving, caring and
responsible individual taking care of our little ones. Laura
indicates that there is always a need for help in the nursery, in
particular the 11:00 AM service.

Even if you do not have a little one, you will want to meet Laura Baltz. Her
life is incredible full and yet she exudes a very calm, quiet, and peaceful
demeanor. I recently read scripture that reminded me of Laura, Proverbs
14:30, A heart at peace gives life to the body…..

Special Music by The Warriner Family

There will be guest musicians. a Praise Team, from the Warriner Family to lead our Praise and Worship service on
Sunday evening, February 17th. You may recall that they entertained us outside on afl at bed at our Yard Sale last
spring. Jayne, the leader of this talented group, is sister to our own Steve Glazebrook. Jayne and extended family live
in Crewe, Va. They are coming to lead our praise music on the 17th. Plan now to attend the dinner at 5:30 p.m. and
the service at 6:30 p.m.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE
We are excited about the implementation of our Shepherding Program at New Life!

The mission of this program: Staying connected and enriching our relationships with one another.
There are over twenty individuals from our church who have volunteered to be shepherds in this
vital ministry. Wall maps have been placed in the hallway next to the pastor’s offi ce to identify
the location of our congregants for use in the shepherding program. The houses that have been
placed on these maps will represent a group (fl ock) and each group will have a shepherd. The
shepherd program will be dedicated on March 9, 2008 at our 11:00 service of worship. Please
keep this ministry in your prayers.

If you have a special need, care/concern, or joy you want to share with your church family, please
contact Congregational Care as we only know if you let us know.

A big thank you to John Butler for conducting the new Usher Program Training on

January 27 and February 3, 2008 (duplicate sessions). It is the hope of the Worship Work Area that we standardize our ushering procedures to aid in a smooth worship experience without becoming overly rigid. If anyone missed thefi rst training and would like to join this ministry, please come on Feb. 3, after the 11 AM service. We would love to have you included.

We will also be conducting Acolyte training on Feb. 17, 2008 after the 11 AM service. This will be for both seasoned and new acolytes. If you are in the 3rd, 4th or 5th grade, please come and check it out. Thanks for your participation in this ministry as well.

Epiphany Prison Ministry~

On the weekend of February 16, I will be serving on the Epiphany ministry team.
Epiphany is an introductory coarse to Christianity, where we are able to express the love of
Christ to incarcerated youth. I have been involved in this ministry for over a year now, and
want to thank New Life for your support in the past.

There are several ways to support this ministry. Each one is just as important as the other

because all contributions are presented to the prisoners as a form of Agape Love (God’s unconditional love). You can sign-up to PRAY. A paper prayer chain is made and linked around the room, representing the number of people praying for the young men. The MONEY donated is used to provide meals & Bibles. The prisoners are given “buddy tickets” which shows that people have cared enough to purchase these items for them.

And then there are LETTERS. You can write brief notes to each youth to express a sentiment of God’s love.

If your small group would like to participate, you can make a POSTER, expressing the love of Christ.
The scriptures tell us to “remember the prisoners as if chained with them” (Hebrews 13:3).
I know that we all can not physically go into the prison on February 16. But New Life, as a whole, can be a

part of this ministry team through the contributions of AGAPE.
I can not express how much it means to me to have you with me on the weekend. It is always an intense and
emotional experience, and when I see a “New Life” name on a buddy ticket or on the prayer chain, I feel your

presence, your support, and your love.
AGAIN, thank you........I can’t do this without you!!
Blessings,
Sherri Fleck ~
