Life Lived Well

After listening to a great concert – we applaud the participants
After eating a marvelous meal – we compliment the chef
After watching a great race – we congratulate the winner
After experiencing an inspiring event – we give tribute to the one

responsible
After receiving a gift – we thank the giver

The Christian life is best lived when in gratitude for what God has
done for us through Jesus Christ. We have been given new life
here and now in addition to the promise of eternal life in heaven.
We have been forgiven our wrongs and given the opportunity to
start fresh and new. We have been given power to overcome the
patterns and habits that hold us back from being all God desires us
to be. We have been given a new family to journey with through
life. We have a great deal for which to be thankful.

So, how do we say thank you to God?
Worship God regularly
Grow in our faith
Serve God with our gifts
Share our faith with others
Give freely of the resources God has given us

“If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose (Philippians 2:1-2).”

During worship in the month of October, we continue focusing
on how to live the full Christian life by giving of ourselves and our
resources in gratitude for who God is and what God has done.

Worshipping, growing, serving, sharing and giving…This is life lived well – life as God intends for us to live. It’s not only for our benefit – it’s for God’s glory.

MEET CINDY BUTLER
Christian Education Director

Where in the church is Cindy Butler? She might be
found getting the children to form a train to “chug-a-
chug” down the hall to Children’s Worship, organizing
materials and volunteers for the Sunday School
classes and Children’s Worship, assisting with the

small group ministries, planning and getting volunteers for special events such as VBS, the
Children’s Christmas Play and the Happy Birthday Jesus Party and planning and organizing
our Children’s ministry. Why does she do all of these things? These are some of her
responsibilities as our Christian Education Director, a position she has had since August 2007.

Cindy and her husband John have been married for 14 years and live in the Midlothian area
with their two children Hannah and Andrew, who attend Watkins Elementary. Cindy said that
when she and John moved to the area, their prayer was for God to lead them to a church
where they felt welcomed. After visits to several churches, they came to New Life during the
summer of 2003, signed up to participate in VBS and Caritas and have been active participants
in our Church family since that time.

Some of Cindy’s favorite things are Mexican food, big band and jazz music, going swimming
at the YMCA with Hannah and Andrew, reading, sewing and going to the driving range to
hit golf balls! Things you might not know about Cindy are that she has a B.A. Degree in
Secondary Education and Spanish, she speaks Spanish and French and lived in New England,
Pennsylvania, Georgia and Florida by the time shefi nished college. She also was an assistant
cheering coach (ask her to do a hurkie).

Our Christian Education Program would
not be successful without the many
volunteers who graciously serve to
deepen people’s faith. Cindy strives to not
justfi ll the needed position, but to match
a person’s passion with the volunteer
opportunity”. When asked her favorite
part of her job as Christian Education
Director, she immediately beamed and
answered - “the children at New Life”.

Thank you Cindy for your enthusiasm and love for what you do as Christian Education Director at New Life UMC.

If you would like to get involved, please call Tracy Cooper, Preschool Director at 794-4522 (Monday-Thursday 9:30 a.m. – 12:30

p.m.).
LIBRARY DEDICATION

Did you know we have a church library? Do you know where it is? Our newly
organized New Life Church Library will be dedicated on September 28th after the
11:00 service. It’s located in the youth room, which is down the hall and across
from the nursery. There are bookcases lined with Christianfi ction, non-fi ction,
DVD’s & VHS tapes, teacher resources, etc – all cataloged to make it easier to

fi nd what you’re looking for. Come down to the library on September 28th

after the 11:00 service to check out a book, get a door prize, and see what
you have been missing! If you have any questions, please call Marilyn
