About Parranda
Parranda.org is a young non-profit entity dedicated to the development of a Greater Puerto Rico. We are an online/offline community of Puerto Ricans residing on the Puerto Rican archipelago, the mainland US, and other parts of the world. Parranda.org aspires to rebuild a Puerto Rico that is safer, healthier, and more prosperous. The first focus for Parranda is a global mapping project, where the goal is to knock on the virtual doors of all Puerto Ricans no matter where they are and ask them to join our cause.
The Parranda Code We believe that nations are defined not only by their borders, but by their people regardless of where they live. Both the historic and recent flight of Puerto Ricans the so-called Puerto Rican diaspora has created challenges for all Puerto Ricans, on and off the island. Many people who have left the Puerto Rican archipelago want to give back. Many people who remain want to stay connected. But there are very few mechanisms to do this. We believe in social networking as a platform for enabling many different ways for giving back, helping to build communities, and staying connected.
The Parranda Code (Cont.) Such a platform would empower us to build a greater Puerto Rico: greater because it extends beyond the physical border of the island, and greater because it would have bigger aims. Among our aims: helping Puerto Ricans to create stronger communities in the U.S., supporting entrepreneurs on and off the island, fostering programs to improve work and educational opportunities for all Puerto Ricans. We have a number of cultural institutions and social norms that can aid in development of the network. We believe in the power of a virtual parranda where each and everyone knocks on the virtual doors of our neighbors, inviting them to join the celebration.
