Welcome message from the conference chairperson  
The International Conference on Knowledge Economy (icke2009) is the inaugural conference to be held onSouth African soil under the umbrella "Knowledge Economy". This conference is hosted by the South AfricanNational Centre for Informatics, Knowledge Management and Knowledge Economy (SANCIKMKE) and other institutions and organizations with embedded interest in Knowledge Economy. The theme of this conference"The Dynamics of Knowledge Based Economy" has been carefully chosen in order to open the scope of theconference. As the first conference on Knowledge Economy in South Africa and the continent it becomes veryimportant to widen the scope of the conference in order to exchange, share and learn from a broad spectrumof topics covering the concept Knowledge Economy. South Africa, like most developing countries, is facedwith challenges of transforming her economy into knowledge economy. Therefore, this conference aims atgetting together experts and professionals in the field of knowledge economy to broadly discuss topicspertaining to the dynamics of Knowledge Economy in both the developing and developed world, with thespecific aim of providing a clear understanding of roles regarding Knowledge Management and KnowledgeSociety and transformation of economies towards knowledge economy. The theme covers common issuesincluding: knowledge management as a support for knowledge economy, the role of information andknowledge society, public policy, legal aspects and many others as outlined in the call for abstracts.We invite all experts in and outside the field of knowledge economy as the concept is encompassing in itsconstruction. We are looking forward to an intensive 3 day knowledge ecosystem which will be a historic eventin South Africa .
