GLIMMERS OF SUN IN A DEEP FREEZE, April 2009 Issue, by Wendy Martin
Greetings to you all.. I am writing this newsletter on a crisp, cold soulful sunny day up here at the Edge. Thebirds are a buzz with flight filled energy swirling back and forth tree to tree.. full of song in praise of this sunfilled day. Our Yoga practice in the winter can be a reflection of our instinct to turn inward and to almosthibernate, to listen deeply to what blossomed through the summer, and what we willingly allowed to dissolveand compost in the fall. As we have spent most of the winter in a cycle of darkness our days are now growinglonger and our curious nature is being stirred to the possibility of spring and what it will bring with it!
I am so very excited for this spring in particular as it will be the first "YogaIntensive"at The Northern Edge happening April 23-26th. something thatI have been preparing and nurturing like a tiny seed and as we get closerthe momentum is building.. I can feel it like rolling waves or changingweather.. Both of the Yoga Intensives will be based on the inner work thatI have been doing and the amazing guidance and wisdom that has beenrevealed through my own body, it's processes and experience. In ourSpring Intensive "Awakening" we will invite our whole beings to re-awaken, shedding the layers of winter and transitioning gently into thenew season ahead. Providing time for self reflective practices, journaling, guided and silentmeditation and yoga to stretch your body, quiet your mind and stir your soul."In Full Bloom" Yoga Intensive will take us deep into the heart of summer and it's natural splendor..morning yoga practice on the dock, leisure canoe paddles with a shore picnic lunch, eveningmeditation and fire side dessert..this experience will provide time for you to delight at yourself in fullBloom...I am happy to announce "At home in the Wild, At home in your Body" thiswill be a 5 day trip, 2 nights spent at the Edge, learning, preparing, packingand mapping out routes for an out trip into Algonquin park, where we willspend 2 nights and a day. I will co facilitate this Trip with Chris Gilmour, who's extensive understanding of nature and it's systems will empower usto connect deeper to our natural environment. By beginning our trip at theNorthern Edge we have the opportunity to prepare physically and mentallythrough yoga. Practices that will help us to align and invigorate and rest willtake us deeper into feeling at home in our bodies. With Chris's guidanceand knowledge we will learn how our natural environment supports us and how we can live as closeto the earth as possible holding it in revery, we will become at home in the wild!
