Hangman Records presents
The Gig
for Everyman
Several Wigan borough musicians will unite later this month to raise funds for a male cancer charity. On Sunday, September 25
th
, ten local bands, including The Randoms, Bingowings and TheHicks, will take part in an all-day rock concert at The Presidential American Bar in Ashton-in-Makerfield. All profits from the event will be donated to Everyman.‘The Gig’, which will also feature an open-mic competition for budding musicians, is thebrainchild of young Ashtonians Ian Graham and Chris Skoyles. The pair recently set up their own music promotion enterprise titled 'Hangman Records', which began life with a hugelysuccessful band/club night at the Presidential in August, attracting 150 people.Chris and Ian hope 'The Gig' will be an even bigger success, having attracted some of thebest up 'n' coming bands in Wigan borough to play at the event.Despite being in their infancy as music promoters, the Ashton lads quickly decided that allprofits from 'The Gig' should go to charity. According to Chris, the decision to donate theproceeds from the gig to Everyman was a pretty straightforward one."Ian plays guitar in local band Testosterone so, after a few pints and a little bit of pub chat, wedecided it would make sense to do something that helped the fight against testicular cancer,"he said.

The Gig (cont.)
“Testicular cancer is most prominent in young men in their 20s, even affecting lads as youngas 15," continued 21 year-old co-organiser Ian Graham. "That’s our age-group, and so if wecan help Everyman to make lads our age more aware of the risks, then that’s great.“We’ve got some of the best bands in the area lined-up for ‘The Gig’ plus lots of other fun stuff going on, so we’re really hoping that everybody comes down, has a great time and enjoys theday, whilst doing their bit for charity.”A host of prizes will be up for grabs on the day, including an acoustic guitar signed by all thebands taking part, and free food will be available for hungry music fans.Lowton’s The Randoms, who recently recorded the theme tune for an upcoming BBC comedyshow ‘Heroes for Hire’ are looking forward to taking part in the event. Guitarist Alex Lomassaid: “I think ‘The Gig’ is a great idea. As we saw this summer with Live8, there are few better ways than a gig to raise money and awareness for charity, as it allows everyone to have agood time through live music.“The Randoms are really looking forward to playing at this event, and are looking forward tochecking out some of the other bands playing with us.”The full line-up for the The Gig is: Branded A Fool, Toxic Lemon, Former Babies, Bingowings,Testosterone, The Ultras, The Hicks, The Randoms, Supamodel and Riff Raff Doors open at 12:30pm and entry is just £3.
