everyone enjoying the backcountry near Moab Utah), and that some basic rules are followed. By signing the registration, be sure to read that you agree to these conditions. They are: RULE 1: A vehicle must have an integral metal top or roll bar to participate in Jeep Safari and have a street legal license from the registered state. RULE 2: Vehicles must have safety equipment adequate for legal operation in Utah. We mean seat belts, and we urge everyone to use them. Having proper brakes, lights, etc. is implied in this rule and should go without saying. RECOMMENDATIONS: We recommend that each vehicle carry a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, tow strap, spare tire, and a jack. What about Permits? All of the trips travel across federal and Utah state lands on established roads, and even through some private land sections. Most road/ trails are left over from the mining days which provided a boom to the area in the 1950s. STAY ON THE TRAIL/ROADS. The organization files the required permits according to the number of participants in each group, and pays the associated fees which are included in the cost of registration. The Special Use Permit at the time of writing this, is $5 per day per person. This number has reached tens of thousands of dollars in land use fees paid to the BLM and the State of Utah in recent years. It is critical that participants respect the land and follow the leaders staying to the designated route. This is absolutely essential for anyone visiting the backcountry in and around Moab Utah throughout the year. What is involved and How do I register? The cost is $50/vehicle for each day. New in 2012 - pre-event Online registration on this website. As the event has grown to be very large, on line registration was inevitable. The Club still accepts mail in pre-event registrations which are handled by a team of club members. Letter from the Club: Regarding Concerns during Easter Jeep Safari Event Week Trails Identification and Summaries Though not an exhaustive introduction to the Easter Jeep Safari event, we hope this provides an overview to many of the pertinent questions that are asked throughout the year. The Jeep Safari newspaper encompasses these points in greater depth, and also holds the registration form, so be sure to write in your request to be on the mailing list. Thank you for your interest in EJS, the official event of the Red Rock 4Wheelers! What it is.... Easter Jeep Safari consists of trail rides, mostly day long trips, departing from Moab Utah throughout the 9 day event. The official event is hosted by the Red Rock 4Wheelers Inc. one of the local four wheel drive clubs of Moab. Participants provide their own four wheel drive vehicle, take care of their own food and non-alcoholic beverages for the trip. Suggested essentials, beyond plenty of water, include sun protection, and layered clothing in case of changing weather circumstances that are always a possibility during the spring in southeastern Utah. What do we do? The club plans the routes and shows you the way. There are no restrictions as to what type make or model of vehicle is used even though 8

the name - dating back to the mid-60s uses the term jeep, but high ground clearance and 2 speed transfer cases are expected in whatever type of truck you run. Where we go? The club official runs usually total around nine different locations every day, with Big Saturday culminating in the largest ever single trail ride departure happening - around 30 groups line up in down town Moab to head off in every direction for 30 different trails! What types of trails? There is truly something for everyone here in Moab Utah. That is why it is referred to so often as the Mecca of 4wheeling! A few trails are nearly accessible for 2 wheel drive vehicles, while the most difficult runs require seriously modified vehicles - and even then, chances for breaks and body damage still exist. Be sure to check each year for the available run lineup, there are even some special options including overnight runs on the Hole in the Rock trail, and a Ladies Only Run. In fact, there will be two Ladies Runs, an easier run for stock vehicles and less experienced drivers or those simply wanting to join in a scenic four wheel drive, and a 7 run for women drivers looking for more of a hard core challenge! Vehicle safety equipment is extremely important. It is essential that participants stay on the designated routes (as well as

receive a form, you want to be on the Red Rock 4-Wheelers Inc. mailing list to receive the paper. The newspaper/form is usually mailed out in the beginning of January each year. Full details and instructions on how to proceed and the costs associated are in the newspaper. Registration at the event may be possible. During EJS, if trail group limits have not been met, then these spaces can be available for on-site registration (at the Spanish Trail Arena) on a first come first serve basis at the discretion of the organizers. (Some registration will still be available on-line (on this website) if the trail day has not been closed by Registration officials, (every day when registration closes for the day the next days trails will be closed to new on-line registrations - this allows us to prepare paperwork for Trail Officials for the next days trail ride. You may still come into the Registration area the next morning and register for the trails that day). If you register On-line on this website you will receive immediate confirmation of your registration by return e-mail. If you register by US mail, your registration confirmation will be mailed to you as soon as our team has processed it. All participants must check in with the organizers during the event to receive the event package which will include a trail pennant, a raffle ticket, a dash plaque, and any required additional information. On-site registration and package pickup is available at the Spanish Trail Arena in the upper level rooms from 7am to 9am each morning of the event (except Big Saturday and Easter Sunday), and open all day until 8pm on Thursday and Friday when the Vendor Show, raffle, and Boy Scout BBQ are held at the arena as well. Understanding that things happen, we try to be flexible, but we have to use a system that we can manage and one that discourages careless changes that threaten the plans of others. A cancellation (any or all trails), if received in writing (mailed or e-mailed) prior to March 1st 2013 merits a refund of all but a $15 cancellation fee. After March 1st, openings will not be filled, and fees will be forfeited. Refunds will not be made until after Safari and our treasurer has handled the more pressing Jeep Safari busines - please allow up to 4 weeks for processing. ALL fees are forfeited after

Safari begins on March 23, 2013. (Click here to request paper) Who are the Trail Leaders? They are Red Rock 4-Wheeler members whether local or associate, and do this for the fun of it without payment for their services. The trail leaders are experienced four wheelers who have been guiding the runs for many years. In addition to the leader, there are also additional volunteers in the middle and at the end of the trail group (tail gunner). What is the Vendor Show? On Thursday and Friday of the event week, there is a vendor and information display area that is free to the general public. This is held inside and out at the Spanish Trail Arena south of Moab on highway 191. To have booth space whether inside or outside of the arena, you will need to contact the Easter Jeep Safari Vendor Event managers for availability and arrangements. (Carma @ 435-2591916) Booth space is a set fee (Click here to request forms) or comparable value product donation for the tremendous raffle that is drawn on Friday night. At this time there is only 1 ticket provided per registered participant for the raffle, an added incentive to be a part of the official EJS event - the ticket needs to be present to win. In addition to the four wheel drive parts and accessory companies and the enthusiastic tire manufacturers that display their latest products at booths, in trailers, and with 18-wheelers, companies that sell products and accessories directly at the show are also on display with items for sale. Special interest groups also provide information for those interested in the future of four wheeling. SG

2013 Lexus 9426A RX 350 5-DR SUV Fuel Economy: 18/26 Class: Small SUV Base Price: $47,000 The new RX 350 will continue to be the most popular choice in the luxury crossover segment it created over 10 years ago. The 2013 RX luxury utility vehicle features an updated look with the new bolder, signature Lexus spindle grille, exterior enhancements, and an upgraded interior. For the first time, an F SPORT model featuring eight-speed transmission, paddle shifters and sporttuned suspension for a more engaging driving experience is available. A key factor in the RX models handling agility is the uniquely designed doublewishbone rear suspension. Another key benefit of the rear suspension is that the packaging yields greater cargo area room. The front suspension geometry was optimized with a thick stabilizer bar. Inversely wound front coil springs compress in opposite directions, preventing the negative effects of suspension compression on steering resulting in better straight line stability. All RX models are equipped with a power tilt and telescopic steering column. To ease entry and exit, the seat automatically slides up to two inches rearward and the steering wheel tilts upward and slides forward when the engine is switched off. Upon pushing the ON switch, the seat and steering wheel return to their last position automatically. LS, LT and LTZ models are powered by a 5.3L V-8 that uses variable valve timing and Active Fuel Management to optimize performance and efficiency. A fuel-saving Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed is standard on all models and contributes to a 21mpg EPA highway fuel economy rating, thanks to reduced engine speed. That lower engine speed also helps make the interior quieter. Triple Dog GT:

Install How To Guide...

Step 1. Step 2.
ully Dog has done it again! For all of you who are wrangler lovers, Bully Dogs new GT Programmer really sparks a mans Gear Head side. The Triple Dog GT is four products in one remarkable unit: a vehicle engine tuner, monitor, gauge, and diagnostic device. The remarkable GT transforms the utility of your vehicle by increasing horsepower, improving fuel economy, and providing a comprehensive set of monitoring features and diagnostic functions. Other tuning products dont hold a candle to the Triple Dog GT - it has the largest feature set and the widest range of vehicle applications from a single product. The installation of the programmer is one of the best parts... its simple and very easy to follow the instructions. The first step is basically to run the hot wire from the programmer to the fuse box under the hood to the ignition fuse to provide a power supply for the programmer. Next, simply plug the programmer to the OB 2 port on

the bottom side of the dash. Next, go through a basic set up menu that is very self-explanatory. Put in the year, make and model of the vehicle and then agree to some very simple waivers followed by a few additional agreements and start up steps. All of these steps are all part of the GTs download process. Upon completion of these steps, the actual download of the programmer will begin. This is the only step that may take a few minutes. The programmer will begin initializing the vehicle. This means, the programmer is memorizing all the functions on your Jeep. Once the programmer is completely installed, the unit will begin monitoring every part of the Jeep. Drivers can scroll through each function to check anything from coolant temperature, rpms, speed, throttle percent, intake temperature, mass air flow, timing and, the most helpful one, fuel economy! All of these things can be viewed while driving on the road. The offroad features of the GT Programmer are really helpful. When you decide its time to get down and dirty, this programmer does it all. The electric fan can be set for constant cooling during heavy offroading that tends to get the coolant temperature up. It will stay on to constantly keep cooling the engine. Some of the other functions the GT provides is electronic gear ration adjustment for bigger tires, and it has an electronic cut on and off of the swaybar for more travel for your suspension over heavier and more rugged terrain. It has throttle adjustment for a steady crawl over the worst terrain. It has an idle auto adjust that allows you to idle the Jeep up without pressing the gas in order to run the winch in faster when using this feature. The GT also can let you lower the tire pressure all the way down to 10 lbs for better traction and crawling without setting off the low tire pressure light. Theres a lot to be said about the BULLYDOG GT Programmer as it offers an awful lot of features and assistance for a Jeep owner. All the functions from performance for street use, to offroad benefits make it worth the money. If you have a new Wrangler, this programmer offers more than any other programmer in the industry. Visit local offroading stores to purchase today or visit www. bullydog.com for more info on this GT Programmer. SG

Larson Electronics Releases Generator Powered Mini-Light Tower Larson Electronics has announced the release a generator powered mini light tower built to provide high power illumination in an easy to transport and deploy design. Producing over 300,000 lumens of light output and equipped with an extendable boom and gas powered generator, the WAL-ML-3XM-3G 3000 Watt Mini Light Tower is ideal for applications where illumination of large areas is required without having to depend on the availability of local grid power. The Larson Electronics WAL-ML-3XM3G mini light tower is a versatile and portable lighting system designed to provide enough power to illuminate large areas while operating independently of external power sources. This mini light tower features big output from a small size with three 1,000 watt metal halide lamps powered by a single generator producing over 3200 VA, and an adjustable light tower boom that can be elevated up to 12 feet in height. This unit produces 330,000 lumens of intense light output in a large flood pattern, and when elevated to its full 12 foot height can illuminate 3 acres of work or event area effectively. The tower and base assembly is constructed of powder coated steel for durability and high strength, and the extendable light tower is raised or lowered using an included hand winch for easy deployment. A heavy duty mounting arm on the top of the mast provides a secure platform for three metal halide lamps, and adjustable lamp brackets allow the operator to adjust each lamp independently of the other for maximum coverage. The base of the tower is fitted with a 3250 VA generator, heavy duty rubber tires for easy mobility, and a pair of ballast boxes, resulting in the majority of the units weight distributed to the base for added tower stability. The tower generator also includes additional 120 VAC outlets to allow operators to run additional devices and equipment if desired. The included generator makes this a truly standalone lighting system and allows operators to provide illumination anywhere it is needed for up to 9 or more hours on a single tank of fuel. This also an easily transported unit, with a removable lamp assembly and collapsing tower boom, which allows users to break down and transport the entire system in the back of vehicles as small as a Jeep Cherokee if needed. This mini light tower is an ideal solution for those who work large scale outdoor sites and events, yet find access to local power sources impractical or unavailable. The WAL-ML-3XM-3G is well suited to use on construction sites, outdoor events, emergency scenes, and just about anywhere fully portable lighting is required and provides the easy transport and setup needed for fast deployment. The WAL-ML-3XM-3G mini light tower is ideal for operators that dont want a towable light plant, said Rob Bresnahan with Magnalight.com. We are trying to offer operators the ability to transport and position lighting where they need it. A typical light plant has 4 heads and diesel generators. Diesel generators can require a knowledgeable diesel mechanic. We are outfitting these 2and 3 head light towers with simple, quiet gas powered Generac generators. The run a long time and can be used to plug in other tools. Most importantly, a contractor can throw 4 of 5 of these in the back of a pickup truck and deploy them all over the worksite in a single trip. With a towable light plant, each site needs a dedicated trip. Each have their own benefits, but the mini-light tower offers simplicity, affordability and portability. Larson Electronics offers a wide selection of HID work lights, HID light towers, explosion proof lights, HID flashlights, intrinsically safe LEDs and LED work lights. The entire Larson Electronics line of industrial grade lighting equipment can be viewed by visiting them on the web at Larsonelectronics.com.

Scott, an avid canine enthusiast. As a lifelong hunter and dog trainer, Scott spent years studying the habits of dogs and their handlers in order to engineer and develop products to suit their needs and enhance the hunting and training experience. Scott Pet product lines have expanded to include basics and accessories for everyday dog needs, healthy chews, and natural treats. We are now one of the largest producers of natural treats in the world. Beginning as a three-person garage operation, Scott pet has grown to an employee base of 140. We now manufacture and distribute over 4,000 items, and are the most diverse manufacturer in the industry. Much of our product line is made in the U.S. Our nylon and leather products are handcrafted at our facility in Rockville, Indiana. Many of the skilled craftsmen who make these 24

Recent major developments include the 2013 relocation of our treat processing operations from Tishomingo, Oklahoma to a new and larger facility in Newport, Indiana. The move is a boon to the local economy, and will create up to 80 new jobs by 2014. Scott Pet has been a pioneer in the pet products industry. From the curved buckle which we introduced over 30 years ago, to the adjustable collar, to the suitcase style fold-up crate (which are now industry standards), to our more recent stand up wild bird seed packaging, we are always looking to build that better mousetrap. Scorpion Unveils a 2 Gallon Kit Scorpion Protective Coatings, Inc. is pleased to announce the Professional Series Truck Bed Liner is now sold in 2 GALLON KITS. The Scorpion 2 Gallon Kit Program is a perfect fit for Automotive Collision and Repair Shops. According to National Sales Manager Dana Mitchell, Scorpions 2 Gallon Kit is our response to the Cartridge Style application systems. A key advantage to the Scorpion 2 Gallon Kit is that it is pre-measured and ready to mix. Mitchell went on to say, This will alleviate any potential for off ratio mixing and reduces inventory levels for applicators. Scorpion has always sold 9 gallon, 45 gallon and larger kits but now has another size to offer. With a list price of $149, the 2G kit is a great option for applicators on a budget. This single application kit will save on shipping cost as well. We have been listening to our customer base and many just dont need a 9 or 45 gallon kit, said Mitchell. Applicators will still have the same benefits of factory direct technical support and marketing support even though they are purchasing smaller amounts. Scorpion is very excited to make this available to their customer base. To learn more go to www.scorpioncoatings.com or call (800) 483-9087 to speak with a representative. Hunting

Alabama Hunting
Alabama is blessed with a rich diversity of wildlife species for viewing and hunting. Our long seasons and liberal bag limits allow hunters plenty of opportunity to participate in our hunting heritage. In fact, Alabama hunters can hunt at least one species during every month of the year.
White-Tail Deer White-tail deer are the number one game animal hunted in Alabama. Approximately 180,000 deer hunters account for more than 4 million man-days of hunting activity annually and have a significant impact on the local economy of rural Alabama. The harvest varies from year to year but hunters typically harvest in excess of 300,000 deer annually. Eastern Wild Turkey The Eastern wild turkey is the second most popular game animal in Alabama and accounts for about 500,000 man-days of hunting annually. Many of Alabamas turkey hunters are quite avid and enjoy the 4-6 week long spring turkey season. Steve Barnett, District V Supervising Wildlife Biologist, and his wife Victoria co-authored a new book regarding the wild turkey in Alabama. Bobwhite Quail Alabama quail hunting has changed significantly over the past decades. Many Alabamians can remember when every local pea patch held a covey of quail. Farming practices and habitat 42

Hunting
changes have negatively impacted quail populations across the southeast. Much of Alabamas quail hunting now takes place on commercial quail hunting preserves. Alligators Alabamas alligator population has grown during the past 50 years to the extent they now cause hundreds of complaints annually from citizens concerned about public safety. An alligator hunting season was instituted in a defined portion of the Mobile Delta in 2006 to limit population growth and reduce issues related to public safety. The hunts have since been expanded to areas in southeast Alabama and Monroe(north of Hwy 84), Wilcox, and Dallas counties. Mourning Dove Mourning dove hunting typically kicks off the fall hunting season as many hunters look forward to a day on a dove field with family and friends. Unlike many other hunting activities, dove hunting is usually a highly social event with many hunters on the same field. Alabama is separated into 2 zones (north and south)

with most of Alabama being in the north zone. The north and south zone seasons typically begin in early September and October, respectively. Mourning doves are migratory birds and are part of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service has special rules and regulations that apply to dove hunting that all hunters must follow. The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service has an that answers many questions regarding the legalities of dove hunting and preparing a dove field. Feral Hogs Feral hogs sightings in Alabama were once primarily confined to the river swamps of southwest Alabama. For many reasons, feral hog populations have increased across Alabama during the past 15-20 years and now occur in all 67 counties. Many counties only have small populations of this highly destructive mammal. However, many areas of the state now have high populations of feral hogs that cause severe damage to agricultural crops, habitat, and other natural resources. Waterfowl Approximately 21,000 individuals hunt waterfowl annually in Alabama. The Tennessee River drainage and the Mobile Tensaw Delta provide a large portion of the waterfowl hunting opportunities for most migratory species. Wood ducks are the primary species hunted throughout the remainder of the state. Please visit the waterfowl page for additional information on waterfowl hunting, Alabamas waterfowl stamp contest, and waterfowl identification. Small Game Hunting Alabamas most popular small game species include dove, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, oppossums, and waterfowl. Small game hunting is often an opportunity for family and friends to gather and socialize and enjoy the camaraderie. Small game hunting is a great way to introduce kids and other beginning hunters to our hunting heritage. Hunter Education in Alabama Alabamas hunter education program helps keep hunting safe and enjoyable. The program covers the skills, regulations and responsibilities of hunting, and wildlife conservation that help to secure our hunting heritage. If you were born on or after August 1, 1977, you must complete an approved hunter education program before being eligible to hunt (see exceptions on web site). Alabama has two hunter education options: a traditional course with a written test or a CD-ROM/ Internet-based course followed by a field day to test hunter safety skills. Dont wait, start today! Traditional Hunter Education Course The traditional hunter education course is a minimum 10 hours of instruction plus a written examination. The course is taught by Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries personnel and volunteer instructors to participants 10 years of age and older and is offered free of charge. The course includes but is not limited to firearms safety and handling, responsible hunting and hunter ethics, wildlife laws, wildlife management and identification, archery, muzzleloading, first aid, survival, and game care. Internet or CD-Rom Course An alternative to the traditional hunter education course includes a two-part program. First the student must complete an online or CD-ROM course and then attend a field day and demonstrate skills such as loading and unloading different types of firearms, safely crossing fences, and other activities that all safe, responsible hunters should be able to complete. Students must complete another test at the field day. Please visit Resource: www.outdooralabama.com for more information, resources and details. SG

Southwest Georgia Fishing Hole

he small town of Albany (pronounced by locals as Aw beeny) is probably best known today for the filming of Christianbased movies such as Fireproof and Courageous. If you are looking for a quaint weekend getaway for fishing and reminiscing, then this southwest Georgia destination is just for you! Albanys first folks to call it home were Creek Indians who lived by the riverbank Thronateeska which means the place where flint is picked up. It seems very fitting that the river flowing through this southern place is called the Flint. The Flint River resource Current day Albany thrives through a private-public partnership that is redeveloping the downtown area by playing up the areas prime natural r e s o u r c e t h e F l i n t R i v e r. T h e centerpiece of the redevelopment is the Flint RiverQuarium, a 175,000 gallon, 22foot deep Blue Hole aquarium filled with the plants, fish and reptiles including Albanys celebrated river turtle found in the Flint Rivers ecosystem, and the 50

Imagination Theater with its three-story IWERKS screen and digital surround sound. Riverfront Park, with its expansive views of the river, Turtle Grove Play Park, water features and riverside trails, gives families the opportunity to play and learn together. The RiverFront Trail now travels north three miles to Cleve Cox Landing on Philema Road. Eventually the trail will connect to Chehaw Natures Playground and south to Radium Springs Garden, one of Georgias Seven Natural Wonders. Take time to listen to Ray Charles music while sitting on piano keys in the new Ray Charles Plaza. This plaza features a life-sized bronze statue of The Genius of Soul seated at his piano. Spend the day at the newly expanded and renovated Thronateeska Heritage Center, encompassing the Wetherbee Planetarium, Science Discovery Center and Museum of History, as well as a model train layout. Tour the Civil Rights Institute, the repository for Albanys African American civil and human rights legacy, in its beautiful glass-enclosed, state-of-the-art museum adjacent to the 1906 Mt. Zion Baptist Church one of Dr. Martin Luther Kings main speaking locations. And if you visit on the second Saturday of the month, youll hear the authentic songs of the Civil Rights era performed by the SNCC Freedom Singers, a group formed in 1962 to share the freedom songs and leave their mark, and tracks, in Albany. Take time to fish The Flint River, stretching throughout southwest Georgia, is one of only 40 rivers than flows unimpeded for more than 200 river miles in the continental US.
