Diagnosis of Scabies

Generally made from the history and the distribution of lesions. Suspect in patients with: Widespread itching that is worse at night. Pruritic eruption with characteristic lesions and distribution. Other household members with similar symptoms. Burrows increase the certainty of the diagnosis. The following tests provide more definitive confirmation of the diagnosis, but negative results do not exclude scabies: Skin scraping Dermoscopy Adhesive tape test

Dermoscopy
A positive finding on dermoscopic examination will be seen as a dark, triangular shape that represents the head of the mite within a burrow also known as delta wing sign.
