Rosana Gabaldon is running for Sahuarita Town Council.Rosana described her campaign, her need for volunteers,and her need for financial support. Motion made by LauraHogan for LD30 to provide $150 to support her campaign.Question: How much is in our bank account? Alex Mich:$631 and change is now available. Question: it’s anonpartisan election; are we going to create more problemsonce this becomes public? Jim Woodbrey emphasized needto support. Pat Canady and Bonnie Richards both urgedindividuals to support Rosana individually. Suzanne Newton suggested tabling the motion until after treasurer’sreport and further time for discussion if available. Morecampaign information followed.Motion to table called and carried.Approval of Minutes

A poll was taken of those in attendance to get a sense of howmany might be needed.Motion to approve minutes made,seconded and passed. County report: $31,000 in original budget; cash on hand$52,500 as of last meeting. Hired executive director – needs to be paid; need to fundraise at county and districtlevel; Report from state meeting: Don Bivens elected; took a long time but now new chair working hard, taking time to
 
visit and if we want can come to speak with us; working onfundraisers and a budget; next month – need suggestions;will do committee work each month; into second quarter of year already and need to get busy; 14 new PCs since the beginning of the year. Next executive meeting is thiscoming Monday. We need ideas for fund-raisers. Pleasesend your ideas to the executive committee.Old Business – None

Motion made to transfer previously tabled motion re.Rosana Gabaldon’s campaign support to ‘New Business’.Information from Suzanne re. what other support Rosanacurrently receives from county party and other organizations. Some contributions have been made byindividuals and groups, including Pima County DemocraticParty. Discussion: Mary Jane Dyson urged support; DonKret reminded everyone to sign in, in the event of aclose/contentious vote. Jen Prileson reminded audience thatLD 30’s mission is to get Democrats elected and that if  providing these funds is legal and we can afford it, weshould use our treasury to fulfill our mission. Questioncalled: to support Rosana Gabaldon’s campaign with acontribution of $150.00.Laurie Cirrincione called question;Connie Woodbrey seconded.Motion carries.Suzanne Newton called questionto support contribution or not.Unanimous support; motioncarries.

Background on how strategic planning was first initiatedseveral years ago; representation from each LD (1 sent byeach LD chair); process is occasionally contentious; much progress made in achieving goals, e.g. airconditioninginstalled @ DemHQ, predictive dialer. Themes of theStrategic Plan included Outreach, Candidate developmentand support, Infrastructure & Technology upgrades, LDsupport – including PC recruitment and training,Communications/Media expansion. Suggestions weresolicited from the LD 30 reps in attendance. Don Kret – met with all 3 LD 30 reps; was there as one of several from Pima County Council on aging; statelegislative cuts very likely for elderly – anything that isn’tmandated by feds – example of foster children subsidies;urged us to write letters, stand up for these programs tosupport elderly – the biggest voting bloc.Sam (last name?) – PT field director for Rosana’s race;needs volunteers to make calls and walks.Vera Berkman – Officeholder’s Expense Fund – those whohold a state level office don’t get any $ in budget for miscellaneous personal, position-related expenses expenses- are permitted to ask individuals up to $70; asked for donations for Terry GoddardSteve Gall announced his wife was now a PC andintroduced her.Adam (last name?) (from Dem HQ) – announcedupcoming visit from Sen. George McGovern who is on book tour.State committee meeting will be May 9 in Tucson – weneed help (20 volunteers for registration, to start at 9 am);location TBD.Don Kret – wanted to remind us to attend the state meetinggiven the low turnout at last November’s Tucson meeting. Next LD 30 meeting will be May 2 at Bear CanyonAdjourn (12:08 pm)
