Contemporal1' Challenges in the Legal Profession
June 24th - 25th, 201 3
Old Mill Inn - Toronto
The contemporary practice of law is faced with a number of
challenges. From ethics in the midst of complex facts to articling
shortages, from legal process outsourcing to the unique challenges
of social media, today's practitioners require a robust awareness of
many concerns, and must navigate more than just black letter law in
order to maintain competence and grow their practices. In response,
The Commons Institute has created a two-day program and brought
together a large august faculty to examine a number of prevailing
challenges, offer strategies, and assist with ensuring your practice
management remains ahead of the curve. The 2013 iteration of this
program will examine a number of challenges, among them ethics,
legal process outsourcing, the ethical and beneficial use of social
media, as well as the future of articling.
A Sampling of Issues to be Addressed:
- Ethics and Professional Discipline, Revisiting Rule Six and the
Cases
- Ethical Issues in Civil and Criminal Litigation
- Legal Process Outsourcing
- Of Necessity and Risk: Articling and the Return on Investment
- Social Media, Professionalism and the Building of Profitable
Relationships
- Planning Life for the Practice of Law
- Diversity and Upward Mobility in the Legal Profession
