NOTES TO THIS AGENDA Note on Meeting Location.
 The Senate will convene its session in the Rita Laden Senate Chamber in the Joe Crowley Student Union. If theroom is over capacity due to unexpected public turnout, the Senate may remove itself to another room within the Joe Crowley Student Union to better accommodate members of the public.
Note on Inaugural Ceremonies.
Pursuant to section 7 of ASUN Public Law 75
 – 
49, near the hour of 6 p. m., the Senate will process to the locationof the Inaugural Ceremonies of the President-elect and Vice President elect. The Senate will be formally sitting during the Inaugural Ceremonies. After the Ceremonies, the Senate will retire to its Chamber or recess or adjournif under an order specifying the same.

CONVENING OF THE SEVENTY-SEVENTH SESSION OF THE SENATE
 The Secretary of the next preceding Senate shall call the Senate to order pursuant to section 2 of ASUNPublic Law 75
 – 
49. Pending the election of a Speaker, the Secretary shall preserve order and decorum anddecide all questions of order, subject to appeal by a Senator.

 ASCERTAINMENT OF QUORUM
Pursuant to the law and custom, the Secretary will call the Roll of Senators-elect to ascertain the presence of a quorum. Only the names of those persons whose credentials show they were regularly elected will becalled. The quorum of the Senate is two-thirds of the members.Pursuant to section 3 of ASUN Public Law 75
 – 
49, after the ascertainment of a quorum, the Secretary willannounce any vacancies in the Senate, due to resignation or otherwise.

ELECTION OF SPEAKER 
 The members of the Senate will proceed to the selection of a Speaker of the Senate, pursuant to Art. II,section 1(e) of the Constitution of the Associated Students. Section 6 of ASUN Public Law 75
 – 
49, asamended, governs the process for electing a Speaker. Each nominee will be recognized to give a 10 minutepresentation to the Senate. The Senate may question and debate the nominees. The Secretary may notrecognize persons who do not have the privilege of the floor without the consent of the Senate. At theconclusion of the debate, the vote will be taken by call of the roll. A majority of the votes is required for theelection of the Speaker. Once a person has been elected Speaker, the Secretary will appoint a committee toescort the Speaker-elect to the Chair. The Senate may consider the character, professional competence, physical or mental health, or othermatters permissible under NRS 241.033, of certain individuals during consideration of this item. UnderNRS 241.031, the Senate may not close the meeting.

 ADMINISTRATION OF OATH TO SPEAKER, SENATORS
Immediately following the election of the Speaker, the eldest Senator in continuous service will administerthe oath of office to the Speaker-elect, who will then administer the oath of office to the Senators-elect.

CEREMONIAL RESOLUTIONS
a.
 
Committee to Notify the President
 The Senate will adopt a resolution to appoint a committee to notify the President that the Senateis organized and is ready to proceed to business.b.
 
Notifying the President of the Election of the Speaker and Secretary of the Senate
 The Senate will adopt a resolution to direct the Secretary to notify the President of the electionof the Speaker and the Secretary of the Senate
7.
 
ELECTION OR APPOINTMENT OF SENATE OFFICERS
 The Senate may proceed to the election or appointment of Officers of the Senate, pursuant to Art. II,section 1(e) of the Constitution of the Associated Students. The Senate may elect or appoint, withoutlimitation, a Secretary of the Senate and a Parliamentarian. The Senate may consider the character, professional competence, physical or mental health, or othermatters permissible under NRS 241.033, of certain individuals during consideration of this item. UnderNRS 241.031, the Senate may not close the meeting.

 ADOPTION OF RULES OF THE SENATE
 The Senate will consider a resolution to adopt Rules of the Senate, pursuant to Art. II, section 2(c) of theConstitution of the Associated Students.

DISPOSITION OF VACANT SEATS
 The Senate may consider a resolution to provide for the disposition of any vacancies that may exist in theSenate, unless a rule adopted earlier has previously provided for the disposition of vacant seats.
10.
 
 APPOINTMENT OF SENATORS TO COMMITTEES
 The Senate will consider a resolution to appoint Senators to committees of the Senate established by theRules of the Senate. The members of each committee may caucus during the meeting to make arecommendation to the Senate as to who should be the chairperson of each committee.

Section 4(b) of ASUN Public Law 75
 – 
49 authorizes any two Senators-elect to petition the Secretary of theSenate to place additional business on the agenda. No petitions were received by the deadline providedunder law.
12.
 
RECEIPT OF PETITIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE TO THE SENATE AND REFERRAL
 The Senate will receive communications addressed to the Senate and refer each to the appropriatecommittee. No action will be taken on communications other than referring them to committee.(Agenda continued on next page)
