Market analysis
 India had an installed solar power capacity of 1700 MW in 2007
which amounted to roughly 1% of its total power generation of
130,000 MW.
 India is currently ranked 7th in the world in Solar PV cell production

Opportunities
The major role players for the production of solar energy in
India are:
 Tata BP Solar
 Moser Baer
 Central Electronics Ltd.
 SELCO
 BHEL etc.
India – A long race in solar power
India is a tropical country rich in sunlight, solar energy
offers the most practicable solution to overcoming
growing energy demand. The daily average solar
energy incident over India varies from 4-7 kWh per
square meter, depending upon the location.
India still is not among the world's top 10 solar energy
generators.
India the only country in the world with an independent
Ministry for renewable energy, known as the Ministry of New and
Renewable Energy [MNRE].
TATA-BP Solar (a joint venture between the TATA group and BP
Solar) announced that it is setting up a 5 MW project.
Rajasthan, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and
Karnataka governments also submitted the solar energy projects of
more than 2500MW.
Largest solar energy plant of India

Situated in madhopur,
near Bhuj (Gujarat).
It will be able to
producing 5GW of
power.
It will cost about $475
million to construct.
At present world’s
largest solar array is
able to produce 900
MW.
