Make Someone’s May Day
The local United Way needs the help from the community to make this year’s 8th Annual Make Someone’s May Day a success. For the past seven
years ofthe program, baskets were filled with personal items and delivered to senior shut-ins throughout Horry County. This year, United Way, Myrtle
Beach Mall and Easy Radio have decided to go GREEN and have recyclable shopping bags to be filled instead of baskets. Over 1,000 baskets were
made for the seniors and this year the goal for is 1000 bags. The program involves the community (individuals and businesses) filling bags for our
elderly shut-ins. These bags are filled with personal items such as: soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, Kleenexes, hair brushes, etc. The bags are to be
dropped off at “May Day Central” at the Myrtle Beach Mall’s Guest Services. Each bag will have a card that was made from the United Way Caring
for Kindergarteners program. United Way and its sponsors ask that all items be new, unused and not opened. The purpose of the “May Day” program
is to provide bags filled with personal items to senior shut-ins identified by United Way Community Partners, Horry County Council on Aging and
Mobile Meals. Horry County Council on Aging and Mobile Meals of the Grand Strand provides a meal program for the seniors throughout our coun-
ty. These clients receive a nutritious hot meal delivered to their door five to seven days a week by an agency volunteer. United Way of Horry County,
Myrile Beach Mall and Easy Radio will provide the number of bags your company, organization or school would like to fill. Simply fill these bags
with some suggested items then deliver your bags to “May Day Ceniral” at the Myrtle Beach Mall Guest Services no later than Monday, April 27th
for proper deliver to the seniors on May Ist. All items need to be new, unused and not opened. Anyone is more than welcome to fill their own bas-
ket or bag. For more information on how your company, school or organization can become involved, please contact the United Way office by call-
ing 347-5195 or email uwofhe@sccoast.net, Please help make this May Day a special one for the senior shut-ins.!
