Title: Analysis of strategy of Transnational Corporation (TNC) operating in Vietnam
A. Aims of the coursework
- To give students the opportunity to study, assess and understand theinternational decisions faced by and facing major international firms in the globaleconomy.- To enable the students to apply the knowledge gained in the lectures to a practical ‘real world’ situation.- To develop students’ research and information gathering skills.- To enable students to work productively within group situations.
B. Working within small groups of 3-4 students
each group will focus on aspecific Transnational Corporation that they themselves select. The TNC must beselected from those operating in Vietnam. Note that the choice of a specific TNC issubject to final approval by the lecturer.Once selected, the student group is charged with conducting a detailed researchassessment of the chosen TNC with respect to its international activities in order tounderstand the international decisions and strategies to that organization.The coursework will outline all the firm’s international activities, but should focus onVietnamese market.The coursework will comprise of the contents addressed in the lectures, which can bedivided into three broad areas of concern as follows:Part 1: An introduction: Background to TNC’s road to Internationalization1.A brief history of the TNC.2.Its major sectors of operation (its major products/services offered, thenature of the industry it operates within.3.Results of its business activities (at least 3 years worth of data needed).4.An analysis of the choice of foreign markets.Part 2: Business strategies of the TNC in Vietnam1.External analysisa.Macro-environment analysis (focusing on PEST analysis). b.Industry analysis2.Analysis of strategic issues of TNC in Vietnama.International strategies of TNC in Vietnam (Standardization or adaptation). b.Business strategies of TNC in Vietnami.Corporate-level strategyii.Business-level strategyc.Organizational structure of TNC in Vietnamd.Modes of market entry.1
