To: Kim Powers <kpowers11@gmail.com>Bus-Motorcycle Hybrids:(Adding to my gift list as we speak)Hello hello and welcome back to another edition of Pop! Goes the Culture. It's Friday and ti's Good because Pop! ishere. Not only am I super excited for this weekend because it's the only time of year I can chalk up egg coloring toreligious celebration (instead of a desperate attempt to cling onto my youth) but because I will officially beginmoving! Before you East Coasters start planning the welcome back parties, I must tell you I am not moving out of LosAngeles - just moving across town. However, it's a pretty big move for me, as my current apartment has been myhome for the majority of my time out West. While there are many great memories, along with some sketchy memories, of my old apartment, I think this onememory sums up the neighborhood best (this is copied and pasted from an old e-mail):"The next night, Greg helped Alissa and I move our couch. Craigslist man, that shit is wonderful. And how we fitthat couch in his honda - It was tight, especially since I was sitting between the two front passenger seats on themiddle console. Haha.Anywho, we're stopped at the light in front of the 7-11 (the one I told you were all the tranny hookers hang out)when we see a bunch of cop cars heading our way. We get worried because we think they're gonna bust us for menot wearing my seat belt, or hell, not evening having a real seat. But instead, they pull into that 7-11, where a mandrops whatever he is holding and proceeds to put his hands in the air (unfortunately, he did not wave them like he just don't care) because I think the cops would have fired their guns that they all drew at the same time."Hollywood, you will be missed. Anywho, let's get started, shall we?

(I smell a sponsorship!)1) Blind Pilothttp://www.myspace.com/goblindpilotWhen I find a random phrase I've written on a post-it note, I almost always assume it's a band I've been meaning tocheck out (except for Creative Guildelines. That was suppose to remind me to do something that I obviously did notdo.) Anywho, I think this Portland duo caught my attention because they are playing at Spaceland quite soon. Andafter checking out their music, I'm much more inclined to see them live. At first listen, these guys seem fairlyformulaic - lo-fi folksy rock. However, once the vibes made an appearance I knew I was in for something special. They've got a great knack for having layered instrumentation without overpowering the intimacy of their songs. Idon't think these guys are aiming for bombastic anthems, but rather, a hike in the woods where you discover a newspecies of caterpillars.2) Bullionhttp://www.myspace.com/bullionnessOkay, so maybe it's not spelt the same way as those cooking cubes, but Bullion has been simmering in my mindand ears these past couple of weeks thanks to the always-ahead-of-the-curve Gorilla Vs. Bear. Hailing from the UK,Bullion made waves last year will an awesome Beach Boys/J Dilla mashup. His original EP, Young Heartache, has

Show:
(delicious.)I Eat PandasComedy Central StageThis past Tuesday I caught NY-based musical improv duo I Eat Pandas (Eliza Skinner & Glennis McMurray) at theComedy Central Stage, and proceeded to be blown away by not only how hilarious this show was, but how talented(both musically and comically) this two ladies were.Their setup is to perform three separate musicals (one 30 minute, one 15 minute, and one 5 minute) all somehowinvolving one audience suggestion. I must disclose now that the audience suggestion was "xylophone", but I swear to you that I DID NOT shout that out (I swear, I didn't).It may have been the suggestion, but they were spot on for all three acts. Personally, I think you can tell whenlonger-form improv is done well when you can almost pickup on the rules the improvers are following throughouttheir show. I think it's amazing when you are able to see something broke down to almost a science, but then alsobe completely hilarious. Eliza and Glennis have really put time and effort into learning and perfectly this craft and itshows. On top of that, they are naturally hilarious performers. Both ladies have a wide range of characters and voices they
