Aim: Theory: 1. Clarity: a. Menu Bar of Internet Explorer is very clear. It has traditional options. i.e.

File, Edit, View etc. b. The location of Home button is below the Menu bar. Generally the location of Home button is right to the Address bar, at least near to Address bar. c. To explain about Tabbed Browsing it provides information, keyboard shortcuts etc. in simple English. d. The use of icons is very less in GUI of Internet explorer. But still used icons are very much clear and unambiguous. e. The term Quick Tab is quite unclear as its not self-explanatory. 2. Compatibility: a. User Compatibility: Internet Explorer is specifically designed for loyal Windows users. For normal users who have less or no knowledge about other browsers IE is best default browser. b. Product Compatibility: i) IE is widely used by government websites worldwide, as it supports various old protocols which are not supported by most of the new browsers. ii) Latest IE versions are not compatible with latest OS release from Microsoft. E.g. IE9 cannot be installed on Windows XP. Again none of the IE version can be installed on other platform. 3. Comprehensibility/Understandability: a. For normal Windows users, almost no learning is required, as IE has same GUI as that of host Windows OS. In other words, IE follows the design principles of Windows OS. Hence the general operations like Cut, Copy, Paste etc in IE has same meaning as that of in Windows Explorer. Hence one concludes that retention level is less for Windows OS users. b. Most of the modern browsers doesnt follows the Windows design, hence retention maybe high in non-Windows OS users. 4. Configurability: a. Latest versions of IE provide better configurability/customization options in terms of Add-On, Toolbar, Search bar, Search Engines etc. b. Personalization is better supported in latest IE versions like IE9, IE10. It has support for themes, browser sign-in etc.

5. Control: a. Users have control over fonts, color, tabbed browsing, security levels etc. b. IE is comparatively slower than many modern web browsers. So user might feel that she might not have control over web surfing etc. c. In IE user can interrupt web page loading, downloading. d. IE provides many default options like Home page, Search engine, Tabbed Browsing, Fonts etc. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
