Salary Subsidy
Educ8 is currently active in a number of Welsh Government funded
programmes that are designed to help unemployed individuals
(primarily young people aged 16-24 yrs) secure employment, whilst
supporting local businesses to employ additional staff at no extra
expense.

We are able to offer employers a series of interlinked opportunities


such as Jobs Growth Wales and Young Recruits Programme that,
when used together, provide a seamless solution to staff
recruitment and development requirements across many
organisations. These opportunities afford employers savings of
circa £10, 000 per additional person employed in any organisation,
not including any further savings that can be incurred via our many
funded training opportunities that are available. (Costs are based
on Government figures at time of print.)

Jobs Growth Wales


If you are considering recruiting a young Person aged 16-24 years
you could be eligible for funding support through Jobs Growth Wales.
As an Employer you could save circa £6,500 in salary costs for each
young person you take on via Jobs Growth Wales.

What is available?

Wage subsidy support for a young person aged 16-24 years for
a full 6 months
Educ8 will reimburse basic salary costs including Employer’s NI (at
the age related National Minimum Wage for a Young Person who
works between 25-40 hours per week
Employers are welcome to top-up salaries themselves should they
wish the Young Person to earn above National Minimum Wage
rate.
Young people will have access to Essential Skills in the Workplace
training from Educ8 during their JGW placement.
Educ8 can also support employers & young people to progress via
the Young Recruits Programme after the 6 month Jobs Growth
Wales opportunity comes to an end.

Conditions:

You MUST be in a position to provide a real opportunity for


permanent employment once the 6 months of funding finishes.

The young person MUST be under the age of 25yrs when signing up to
a JGW position.

Educ8 MUST complete a Health & Safety visit at you organisation prior
to the Young Person starting.

Progression:

Should you wish to employ a young person once they have


completed their 6 month JGW placement, we can continue to
support you via the Young Recruits Programme whereby you will
to receive a significant subsidy towards their wages once they
embark upon a fully funded Apprenticeship programme.

Young Recruits Programme


The Young Recruits Programme is an all Wales programme that
provides financial support to employers to recruit and train
additional young apprentices, who are aged between 16-24 years
old.

£3,900 in wage subsidy (£100 per week for 6 months, then £50 per
week for the next 6 months) can be paid directly to the employer,
subject to the eligibility criteria and evidential requirements being
met (not applicable to the Public Sector). At the same time, the
young person will embark upon a FULLY FUNDED Apprenticeship
Programme that will help them to develop their work-based skills and
competencies.

Whether you are a large employer that already offers high quality
Apprenticeship Programmes looking for additional learners, or a
smaller business looking to employ a young person that has
completed a Jobs Growth Wales placement with you, the Young
Recruits Programme will benefit you.

Recruitment Conditions:

As long as you can offer a full time apprenticeship place for a


Support minimum of 25 hours and pay the appropriate minimum wage
(evidence through copy of wage slips) for Apprentices you are
eligible for this fantastic scheme.

ALL learners must be living and/or working in Wales and have been
employed by you for no longer than 10 weeks at time of application.
Educ8 will then enrol and support learners through their Level 2 or
Level 3 Apprenticeship Framework.

The young person must be under the age of 25yrs in order to qualify
for a Young Recruits opportunity.

Progression:

Once a young person completes their Apprenticeship Programme


via Young Recruits, Educ8 can continue to support them to progress
in their careers but offering them progression to additional FULLY
FUNDED work-based opportunities up to Level 5 standard.

Recruitment Support Process

The model below demonstrates the total saving of £10, 709.40


that can be made in salary costs per young person employed
via these funded opportunities:

Learner begins a placement/training opportunity with Educ8.

16 - 24 yrs

25 yrs +
Learner transfers to Jobs Growth Wales and gets paid by
Educ8 at age related National Minimum Wage for 6 months
(allowing savings circa £6,500 in salary costs)

Learner completes Essential Skills in the Workplace (ESiW)


(Developing further skills and preparing for work based learning)

Learner is recruited through Young Recruits Programme 25 yrs +


and begins their fully funded Level 2 Apprenticeship
(allowing a saving of £3,900)

Learner progresses to a FULLY FUNDED Level 3 - Level 5


QCF Qualification

Young people will also be provided with added value training


workshops as part of the QCF package.

*Costs are based on National Minimum Wage rates of a person aged 21


years.

Essential Skills in the Workplace


Educ8 is now offering a series of Welsh Government FULLY-FUNDED
Essential Skills training programmes to help employees become more
effective, competent and confident in their job roles. This programme
is eligible to ALL staff, (including those on Jobs Growth Wales) and
could cover:
Communication (COMM)

Understanding written information including Health & Safety


instructions, policies and procedures, plans and reports
Filling in forms, log books and time sheets accurately
Completing records and risk assessments
Following instructions and communicating with colleagues,
customers and other stakeholders
Being able to effectively listen to the needs of the individuals
using services and respond accordingly
Understanding and participating in other vocational learning
(such as QCF qualifications)

Application of Number (AON)

Planning own time and activities effectively


Reading and understanding timetables, rotas and wage slips
Handling cash responsibly

Information Technology (ICT)

Writing and compiling electronic reports


Accessing and responding to emails
Preparing and presenting work such as QCF qualifications

Training
Support Learners who complete ESiW will NOT have to complete ESW as
part of their apprenticeship. ESiW can be used a pre-curser to
QCF Qualifications.

Work Based Learning


QCF Qualifications and Apprenticeships allow employees to achieve
accreditation in recognition of their work-based competencies which can
help them progress within their careers. They also provide employers with
the re-assurance that their staff are competent to perform their job roles at
the required industry
standard.

The apprenticeships comprise of a QCF Diploma (formerly known as an


NVQ), Essential Skills Wales qualifications and an Employment Rights &
Responsibilities handbook.

Educ8 delivers FULLY FUNDED apprenticeships in the following routes:

Health & Social Care Levels 2-5


Children’s Care, Learning & Development Levels 2-5
Customer Service Level 2-3
Business Administration Level 2-3

Some apprenticeship routes can be delivered via workshops or purely by


monthly workplace visits. In order to qualify for a fully funded place on an
apprenticeship framework, learners must be employed within the sector of
the apprenticeship route. Due to Government funding restrictions may
affect candidate eligibility.

As long as the learner is committed to their learning experience, they


should complete their apprenticeship within 12 months.

Statutory Training

Educ8 offers a range of qualifications that are


statutory requirements in many sectors.

The qualifications we offer range from Health and


Safety in the Workplace to Fire Awareness and
Emergency First Aid at Work. These qualifications are
accredited with CIEH or HSE and are delivered by our
experienced, qualified in-house trainers.

All qualifications are delivered by our high quality


trainers and can take place at our modern training
centres in Abercynon and Ystrad Mynach or in-house
at organisations (minimum learner numbers apply).
