House of Hope
By Molly Waggoner
The Salvage Yard community has long had a presence on the West Bank, but in recent times, our activities there have decreased, leaving only the Jesus Kitchen and individuals’ personal ministries. I got involved with the Jesus Kitchen in 2002 and have a brokenheart for the West Bank ever since. I have a passion to see the area become a shining example of the power of God’s redemption. I believe that Zechariah 8 is God’s vision for the neighborhood—a picture of economic recovery, decrease in crime, and the presence of God so obvious that people come from all over, knowing they can find God there.Last year, I felt that God was leading us to establish a church—something more permanent, something more than a weekly event. As I prayed about it, I felt that there were two common denominators among the diverse population there—one being the lack of
 place
, theother being resignation. Many people feel uprooted or like they don’t belong, whether that is because they are part of a counter culturethat often feels they are not welcome or have no place to go, or because they have come here from another country under traumaticcircumstances. Most people also know deeply that the world is messed up, but they have no belief that anything could change; there isno hope, so instead they resign themselves to cynicism, numbness, or anger. We know that Jesus went to prepare a place for us, andthat because his life defeats death, we do not have to despair. So we have named our church House of Hope, believing that we canoffer people a picture of Jesus’ gift to us—a place where they belong, and the hope of restoration. To learn more about our ministry, visit our as-yet-unfinished website: www.houseofhopechurch.org, or come visit one of our services (info on the website).
International Bible Givers
By TJ Schellman
Our ministry spotlight for the month of April is The International Bible Givers (IBG). They have been a great resource for us over theyears and have generously provided free Bibles that we could share with others at church and at the Rainbow gathering. We have been so blessed by IBG and their commitment to freely share the word of God with anyone that we would like to bless them thismonth. Please pray for them and consider how you may continue to bless them in the future. I have included their statement of  purpose for your perusal:IBG’s purpose is to serve the Church and Community in Evangelism and Discipleship by providing God’s Word FREE so that personseverywhere will have the opportunity to come to Faith and Life in Jesus Christ. We are the North Suburban Chapter of InternationalBible Givers. Consisting of 400 -plus Christian volunteers. We range from high-school age to 93. Most of us live and work inMinnesota, about 20 of us live in other states and three in other countries.
