Theory
Evaporation is the process wherebyatoms or molecules in a liquid state(or solid state if the substancesublimes) gain sufficient energy toenter the gaseous state. The thermal motion of a moleculemust be sufficient to overcome thesurface tension of the liquid in orderfor it to evaporate, that is, its kineticenergy must exceed the workfunction of cohesion at the surface.
