Thoughts and commentary on some
of
the most important issues
that
anarchists must confront, from an anarchist communist perspective. The chapters in this pamphlet were originally published in the pages

ANARCHIST COMMUNISM
ANARCHIST COMMUNISM
is a distinct body
of
revolutionary
social
and
political ideas.
It
offers a
radical
alternative
to
the statist belief systems which
have
proved their bankruptcy in the twentiethcentury.Marxism, in both its Bolshevik
and
sodal democraticvarieties,
has
proved a disastrous failure. Sodalism,
and
the other ideologies
based
upon capitalism such
as
fascism and liberal democracy have provedovertly murderous or hypocritically
so.
Only anarchist communism remains to
be
tested
as
a fullycoherent approach to organising the world.
As
the
second
millennium
passed,
its last century saw thealmost unrestrained rise of the State and with
it
virtually continuous warfare-plunder dressed up
as
the "global economy"
and
ecological devastation.The people
of
the world today deserve much morethan
has
been available to the great majority
so
far.The rise
of
capitalism, the technological state and imperialism
are
eliminating the human factor from
social
life. The individual in the advanced industrialised state is removed from the community
and
isolatedin concrete
boxes,
withtelevision
as
the main link to the world outside. The poor majorityinAfrica, Latin America
and
Asia
struggle to survive
as
their way
of
life
is
increasingly dictated by the
needs
of
an
insatiable global economy, with their own elites encouraging
and
benefiting from thisexploitation. Radsm
and
nationalism are
if
anything stronger, stirred
up
by various elements in theruling
class
and taken
up
by
many people in the working
class
as
they
see can
see no
other answerto their problems.
Women
are under attack world-wide with the rise
of
religious fundamentalism
and
the generalised obsession with the "decline
of
the family"
and
"moral values".Anarchist communism
is
the alternative.
It
places the individual at the centre
of
its approach, foronly active, thinking persons
can
ever
be
free. However, the individual
does
not exist apart from therest
of
humanity. Capitalist exploitation whilst destroying "natural" communities
has
created and iscreating social solidarity
on
the
basis
of
class
identity
and
reality, where people choose to identifywith
each
other rather than being forced into a community
because
of
tradition. The ruling
classes
of
the world are waging a desperate
class
war against numerically-vast populations
of
workers
and
peasants.
In
the search for profits the produdng
classes
are
subject to ever-more
savage
assaults.But
it
is out
of
this struggle between exploiter and exploited, between the oppressors
and
the oppressed, that the
mass
of the population will achieve human freedom.
Social
revolution
is
the onlyway
of
achieving this liberation.
