Social Studies Lesson

Learning Objective:
The students will know the various communities in which they live as well as key
geographical terms by creating an informational graphic organizer.

CA Social Studies Standards:

3.1 Students describe the physical and human geography and use maps, tables,
graphs, photographs, and charts to organize information about people, places, and
environments in a spatial context.

Anticipatory Set: (5 minutes)

Today we’re going to be creating a flip book. The flip book that we’re going to make
will contain information about the geography that we are studying. Creating this flip
book will help us to study as we learn more about the geography. This will also help
you to study for the test that we will have in the next couple of weeks.

Here is the flip book that we will be making in class (show the students)
I have already created the flip book for you. As a class, we will write and paste
pictures in our flip book.

Dismiss students by groups to get their scissors and glue sticks from their cubbies.

Instruction:
First have the students label each of the pages of the flip book.
Hand out the pictures. Have the students cut out the pictures from the page.

the mechanics of the class efficiently?

Did I set a pace that was neither too fast nor too slow?

What did I do particularly well today? What can I do better tomorrow?
