AN ORDINANCE BY THE CITY OF NELSON, GEORGIA AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF NELSON, GEORGIA, TO ADOPT PROVISIONS

REGARDING THE REQUIREMENT FOR HEADS OF HOUSEHOLDS TO MAINTAIN FIREARMS. WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Nelson finds that it is in the public interest to amend Chapter 38 of the Code of the City of Nelson, Georgia, for purposes of emergency management and general safety of the city; NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Nelson hereby ordains that Chapter 38 of the Code of the City of Nelson be amended as follows to add Section 38-6 to Article I of said Chapter: Sec. 38-6. Heads of households to maintain firearms. (a) In order to provide for the emergency management of the city, and further in order to provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants, every head of household residing in the city limits is required to maintain and firearm, together with ammunition therefor. (b) Exempt from the effect of this section are those heads of households who suffer a physical or mental disability which would prohibit them from using such a firearm. Further exempt from the effect of this section are those heads of households who are paupers or who conscientiously oppose maintaining firearms as a result of beliefs or religious doctrine, or persons convicted of a felony. This Ordinance is hereby adopted this _1st__ day of __April______________, 2013, the public health, safety and general welfare demanding it.
