 The
Draw An Ad
contestwas truly an opportunityfor my Art students toput their talents to work.My young Artists had ablast. To benefit fromhaving the publisher anda commercial artist comein and present to each class how a newspaper works andhow the Arts and artists fit into this real world was ameaningful lesson. The students learned how to designan ad using their unique perspective and skills coupledwith their new knowledge of how to make itmarketable. With the tremendous support of our localbusinesses my already talented students come awayfrom this collaboration with a rich experience thatI think will have an enduring impact foryears to come. Thank you! Ray Gonzales
The students pictured each won a Gift Card to Target fortheir outstanding ads. From L to R: Brittney Tiangtrong (6thGrade), Ernie Torres (8th Grade), Taras Zbyshko (8th Grade),Malachi Green (6th Grade), and Nicole Gomes (6th Grade.

 “Ads by Kids,
” is our latest Lincoln News Messenger project, and it’sall about Lincoln businesses and how local kids view them! This fun project began with a suggestion from Kathy Dorsey, owner of Wardrobe, as anopportunity to get involved with local students.Ray Gonzales, a long-time art instructor at Twelve Bridges MiddleSchool, liked our idea and made arrangements for myself and co-worker,Beth O’Brien, to teach students in all five art classes how to create a good ad. They were shown the basics of what to put in an ad, how to find information about a company, the value of white space in an ad, graphics, and how to structure a sales offer.Under the guidance of Mr. Gonzales, the students ran with the idea and had an enjoyable experience. We also initiated a competition where awinner from each class was chosen by a third party. Each winner (pictured on page 2) received a $25 Target gift certificate. We would like to thank Ray Gonzales and his art students for the timeand effort that they put into this project! Sixth, seventh, and eighth-graders participated and each student did a great job! Where talent is concerned, age doesn’t play into it as you can see by these great ads! My sales team, Brenda Thomas and Jennifer Parisius, and myself worked very hard to make sure that every business had a chance to see the ads thatwere created for them! These businesses were offered the opportunity to bea part of this unique publication and made every effort to participate as theycould. You can view additional ads by visiting The Lincoln NewsMessenger Facebook Page.We hope you enjoy this special section and, if you would like your  business represented next year, please e-mailmessenger@goldcountrymedia.com or call 645-7733.
