Havestudentssitinacircleontheoor.Invitethemtobringtheirstuffedanimalswiththem.Readaloud

.Afteryouhavereadthestory,askstudents,“WhydoyouthinkIradecidestoreturntohishousetogethisteddybear?”(Histeddybearhelpshimfeelsafeandsecure.Whenheseesthathisfriendsleepswithateddybear,heisnotembarrassedtohavehisown.)Explainthatwhenweareinanewplace(likeanewclassroom)orhaveanewexperience(likeattendingtherstweekofthenewschoolyear),ithelpstohaveafriendwithus.Aspecialteddybearorotherstuffedanimalcanhelpustofeellessnervousandlessalone.
