Fifty years ago, the Georgia General Assembly appointed a spe-cial study commission to examine how Georgia supports thearts. Now, a half-century later, the Georgia Council for the Artsis asking the exact opposite:
How do the arts support Georgia?
It’s an important question. Few would disagree that the artshave value – in fact, more than six out of ten Georgians saythe arts are “extremely important” to their communities.

Thearts are important because of the joy and beauty they bring toour lives, for their ability to entertain, inspire and refresh, and forthe invaluable and unique contribution they make to our qualityof life. But many Georgians are not aware that public investmentin arts partnerships, through the Georgia Council for the Arts,brings an incredibly impressive return, not only in culture andcommunity, but in education and the economy.Imagine. Stronger schools. Increased state revenues. Revitalizedcommunities. A greater understanding of people and cultures. All are possible through public support of the arts.
