IBM PureData System
IBM PureData Systemor Operational Analytics
An integrated, high-performance data system for operational analytics
Businesses across industries need actionable insight into theiroperations to gain a competitive advantage. To gain this insight, they oten must analyze large data sets comprising both historicand current (or operational) data. However, a high percentage o queries or operational analytics systems—oten up to 80 percent—are interactive lookups ocused on data about a specic customer, account or patient. These operational queries can originate rom callcenters, mobile sales apps, real-time raud detection systems or otherapplications that support real-time decision making. To deliver the correct inormation as rapidly as possible, the data warehouse supporting these systems must be optimized or the right balance o analytics perormance and operational query throughput. The IBM® PureData™ System or Operational Analytics—a membero the IBM PureSystems™ amily—helps organizations meet thesecomplex requirements with an expert integrated data system that isdesigned and optimized specically or the demands o an operationalanalytics workload. Built on IBM Power Systems™ servers with IBMSystem Storage® and powered by IBM DB2®–based InoSphere® Warehouse sotware, the system is a complete, out-o-the-box solutionor operational analytics that provides both the simplicity o anappliance and the fexibility o a custom solution. Designed to handlemore than 1,000 concurrent operational queries,

it delivers mission-critical reliability and scalability with outstanding perormance.

IBM PureData System
The PureData System or Operational Analytics enablesIT departments to easily deploy, optimize and managedata-intensive workloads or operational analytics. It delivers exceptional value in three ways:
•
Built-inoperationalanalyticsexpertise,
based on years o IBM experience and best practices rom thousands o client engagements, is embedded into the system to providea complete solution that can rapidly deliver value.

Turn data into insight with in-databaseanalytics
With in-database analytics, you run analytics on your data where it resides—in the warehouse. This eliminates thetime, cost and risk associated with copying data out o the warehouse to analyze it.Using multidimensional cubing services, this PureData Systemdelivers rapid insight into high volumes o ast-moving data.Users can create, edit, import, export and deploy cube modelsover the relational warehouse schema to analyze multiplebusiness variables. Cubing services help optimize perormanceor online analytical processing (OLAP) queries, providingmore power or users to analyze data and generate businessinsight that can enhance both protability and customersatisaction. Overall, perormance or complex queries is upto 3.3 times aster than the previous release o InoSphere Warehouse sotware.

Powerul data mining capabilities also enable integratedanalytics o both structured and unstructured data in thesystem. Standard data mining models (including clustering, associations, classication and prediction) are supported andcan be developed via drag and drop in an intuitive designenvironment. The data mining models are executed in theproduction environment to provide real-time scoring o data records. Additionally, rich presentation componentsare provided to enable visual analysis o data mining results.
Get real-time analytical insights withcontinuous data ingest
Continuous data ingest capabilities enable organizationsto transparently load data rom external sources into thePureData System without downtime—supporting real-timebusiness analysis and decision making during the loadingprocess. The continuous data ingest eature allows ITdepartments to load data across multiple threads at the sametime to get the data in very quickly, while also dynamically switching between the various external load sources to helpmaximize resource utilization. It helps eliminate the latency created by batch-loading data on inrequent schedules, making it extremely valuable or business users who needcurrent operational data in the warehouse.

Grow as needed with a exible andefcient system design
A modular, fexible system design enables organizations toacquire the PureData System or Operational Analytics at thecorrect size or their current needs and scale incrementally upto a petabyte o capacity as their data grows.

The system includes many eatures that are preset tooptimize perormance, throughput and resource utilizationo operational analytics workloads. It is also designed tosignicantly reduce disk space requirements and improvequery perormance. Using Adaptive Compression eatures, thePureData System or Operational Analytics can automatically compress indexes and temporary tables to help reduce storagecosts. Data row compression contributes to storage spacesavings and helps reduce I/O overhead—and the stored pagesare also compressed, which urther enhances the compressionon disk. Because data is compressed, it signicantly reducesthe I/O requirements and helps improve query response time without the need to requently reorganize the data. AdaptiveCompression can also adapt to changing patterns in the data.Clients have experienced cases o 10x storage space savings via Adaptive Compression.

Rely on highly available, high-perormance operational analytics
The ault-tolerant design o the PureData System orOperational Analytics virtually eliminates single pointso ailure and includes standby server capacity to support continued operations in the event o a hardware ailure. With built-in automated workload management eatures,IT departments can establish and enorce service levels orend users by prioritizing queries rom dierent users andapplications and then controlling the number o underlyingresources dedicated to those processes.
