Die Stadt Weiz hat eine lange Geschichte, denn erste Besiedlungen erfolgten bereits zur Zeit der R\u00f6mer. Erstmals wurde der Ort 1188 urkundlich erw\u00e4hnt, im Jahre 1850 wurde Weiz Bezirkshauptstadt und im Jahre 1932 zur Stadt erhoben. Mit der Gr\u00fcndung der ELIN zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts wurde Weiz zu einem Zentrum der Elektroindustrie, deren Pro- dukte in die ganze Welt geliefert werden. Die sym- pathische Kleinstadt mit 9.300 Einwohnern ist auch heute ein starkes wirtschaftliches Zentrum, das sich innovativ und dynamisch entwickelt.

The town of Weiz has a long history; settlement first took place already during Roman times. The community was first mentioned in a document in 1188. Weiz became the district capital in 1850 and raised to town status in 1932. With the founding of Elin at the beginning of the 20th century, Weiz became a centre of the electrical industry with products delivered throughout the world. The sympathetic small town, with 9,300 inhabitants, is also a strong commercial centre today that continues to develop innovatively and dynamically.

The town centre around the Tabor, as well as the Baroque Pilgrimage Church, offer historic retrospection into the near and distant past. The Kunsthaus promises many contemporary prospects.

The diverse gastronomy, as equally as the dense programme of festivals and events, ensure moments of pleasure. Exciting in- sights are guaranteed by the stalactite caves in the surrounding area. And enlightening bright spots (not only through Christmas illumination) are the order of the day throughout the year in Weiz, the \u201cEnergy Centre\u201d.
