Mountain Hope
Conference Successful
On Thursday, March 5, over 60 people gathered at the Nada missionfor a community development workshop led by Father John Rausch. The night offered a wonderful meal, time for fellowship, and network-ing among leaders, residents and volunteers for Nada and OwsleyCounty. Both groups dreamed of how they could impact their commu-nities including what they would want from churches and individualsby way of partnership. Most of the evening was dedicated to break-out sessions; one group focused on Nada adults, one group focusedon Nada youth, and one group focused on Owsley County. Duringthese breakouts Father Rausch encouraged the group to channeltheir energy on what they can donow and determine what smallstep can be accomplished soon. The evening ended with continueddiscussion on “Where does thiscommunity go from here?”; awonderful question for all leadersto be asking. This conference wasanother step in a long journey aswe continue to partner throughMountain Hope in McCrearyCounty, Nada, and Owsley County. If you are interested in serving orwould like more information aboutthese areas in Eastern Kentucky, please email josh@kybf.org.
Leaders from Owsley County gather during the breakoutsession to discuss new ideas and organize their assets together.Father John Rausch offeredinsight and inspiration at theMountain Hope Conference.

Living Faith Baptist Fellowship welcomed theEmmanuel Family, new friends from Burundi,at an Easter Egg Hunt andFellowship Supper SundayAfternoon, April 5.
Through Kentucky Refugee Ministries in Louisville, the churchhas connected with the family of seven, who have never knownlife other than in a refugee camp until they came to Louisville. Thefamily was selected by the church especially because two churchmembers, David and Cathy Brandon, formerly were missionaries inBurundi. Since the Brandons speak the language of Burundi, churchmembers were able to communicate with the family. In January church members traveled to Louisville to set upthe family’s apartment with items that had been collectedover the past year. David was able to be at the airportwhen their plane arrived to welcome them on behalf of the church. The older children are in school in JeffersonCounty and are learning to speak English; the parents areenroled in language class at Kentucky Refugee Ministries. The Easter Egg Hunt was a new experience for the chil-dren, who range in age from two to twelve. Sunday’s eventwas the first time most members had met the family. Futureevents are being planned to cement the relationship be-tween the Emmanuel family and the church.
