Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would doeverything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise becameSusan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. TheDenver Metropolitan Affiliate of Susan G Komen for the Cure is working to better thelives of those facing breast cancer in the local community. We join more than amillion breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world’slargest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer. Throughevents like the Komen Denver Race for the Cure®, the Komen Denver MetropolitanAffiliate has invested $32 million in community breast health programs in 19Colorado counties. Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Affiliate stayin the Denver Metropolitan area. The remaining income goes to the national SusanG. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research. Position:
Public Relations Intern
Timeframe:
Spring, Summer or Fall
Reports to:
Director of Education and Marketing
Status:
Part Time, 10-30 hours weekly, Unpaid- will work with school to receiveschool credit
Position Summary:
The Public Relations Intern will support the mission of theKomen Denver Metropolitan Affiliate in the areas of marketing and public relationsby providing administrative support to the Director of Education & Marketing.
Specific Responsibilities:Marketing & Public Relations
Monitor Internet postings
Post Affiliate news releases in website outlets
Assist with ROI (Return on Investment) Reports
Draft press release
Provide support around Affiliate’s public awareness campaigns
Social Media and Website
Assist with social media communication- blogging, Twitter, and Facebook
Assist with monthly homepage and e-newsletter articles
Monitor and pull reports for social media efforts
Volunteer
Assist with volunteer applications and information request ensuringapplication forms are complete, applicants are invited to appropriatetrainings, and appropriate follow-up is completed
 
Assist with planning of volunteer orientations, trainings and other educationrelated meetings including scheduling day/time, room, invites, RSVPs, andcopying of needed materials
Maintain volunteer files that meet legal, auditing and National requirements
Volunteer database data entry
Other Responsibilities
General office support and administrative support of the Director of Education& Marketing.
Special projects as assigned
Required Qualifications
Pursuing an undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate degree in PublicRelations or Communications during the semester you wish to participate inthe internship
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
Self-motivated, team player with the ability to meet deadlines, remainflexible and adjust to changing priorities
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
Interest in non-profit organizations
Strong personal interest in Komen’s mission
