La naturaleza humanaha suscitado desde siempre
todo tipo de reflexiones, actitudes y posturas vitales. Meditar sobre nosotros
mismos, una capacidad que sólo posee el ser humano, es lo que nos ha hecho
progresar en muchos sentidos y ha dejado una huella indeleble en el arte.
Francis Bacon parecía obsesionado por la vulnerabilidad humana frente a la
violencia, el dolor y la muerte, y esa reflexión se refleja en su obra, que
analizamos en esta edición con motivo del centenario de su nacimiento.
Por su parte la primatóloga Jane Goodall, que ha dedicado su vida a la
investigación del comportamiento de los chimpancés y a su protección, posee
por este mismo motivo una idea muy firme de cómo es la naturaleza humana,
en contraste con la de nuestros antepasados primates; así nos lo demuestra en
la entrevista que nos ha concedido en su residencia en Madrid.
Somos inquietos por naturaleza, estamos en permanente búsqueda, y eso nos
hace investigar nuevas formas de comunicarnos, de expresar ideas. Así el arte
va evolucionando y hallando nuevos caminos. La música pop y la aparición de la cámara de vídeo casero
estimularon la creación artística de los años sesenta. El Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York explora esa
confluencia de intereses que dio lugar a manifestaciones creativas que surgían de la propia cultura pop, de
una sociedad de consumo pegada a la pantalla de la televisión y a los transistores de radio.
Muy lejos en tiempo y en forma se encuentra la fascinación de una ciudad, París, por una cultura
ancestral: Egipto vive en los rincones más insospechados de la ciudad de la luz. Por eso el viaje que hemos
realizado a la capital francesa nada tiene que ver con las postales más típicas; por eso ofrecemos una visión
totalmente nueva, que muchos, a los que damos la bienvenida, descubrirán por primera vez en estas páginas.
Human naturehas always provoked all kinds of reflections, attitudes and vital stances. Inward
reflection, a capacity that only the human being possesses, is what has made us progress in many senses and has left an indelible mark in art. Francis Bacon appeared to be obsessed by human vulnerability in the face of violence, pain and death and this reflection is reflected in his work which will be analysed in this edition, motivated by the centenary of his birth.
In another sphere, the expert in primates, Jane Goodall, who has spent all her life researching ape
behaviour and advocating their protection, for the same motive possesses a very clear idea of human nature,
in contrast to that of our ape ancestors; as she shows us in the interview she granted us in her Madrid
residence.
We are curious by nature, we are constantly searching and that makes us investigate new forms of
communication, of expressing ideas. Thus, art progresses and finds new pathways. Pop music and the
invention of the home video camera stimulated the artistic creation of the Sixties. The Modern Art Museum
of New York explores this confluence of interests that gave rise to the creative demonstrations that emerged
from this same pop culture, from a consumer society glued to a television screen and to transistor radios.
Very far away in time and in form is the fascination of a city – Paris – for an ancient culture: Egypt,
which lives in the most unsuspecting corners of the City of Light. For that reason, the journey we have
made to the French capital has nothing to do with the usual typical picture postcards; for that reason, we
offer a completely new vision that many of the people we welcome here will discover for the first time in
these pages.
