NU:RAVE

Media EvaluationBy Natalie Saben

In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real mediaproducts?
I used a dominant central image and strap line this is common in allmainstream magazines. The unique sales point (USP) of my magazine is that its much morefashion orientated than Mixmag, it also incorporates indie in themagazine, this is where I found my niche in the market. The imagesshow conventions such as colour and light to show rave. I used alonger shutter speed to create blur effect on my front cover image. Iused rightly coloured makeup because its associated with rave andgoing out. My magazine is also aimed at men and women whoaren't afraid of wearing outrageous things which is why I have usedextravagant makeup. The mode of address is the same as my maincompetitor, Mixmag, it is that of a friend advising them. I have keptsome of the phrases jokey and used puns because my targetaudience enjoy humour.

How does your media product represent a particular social group?
There are more elements on a page because my target audiencegenerally have cluttered busy lives. The social group who I’mrepresenting is students and young men and women who enjoy thepartying culture this is shown by the bright colours on my picturesand fonts. I have incorporated Facebook like pictures in my DPS asthis will relate to my target audience who are already regular Facebook users. It helps to show more realistic experiences andhelps convey the fact that my mode of address is like that of a friendadvising them. The front cover shows the blurred movement of araver. This represents dancing caught in time. The contents pageshows a person with a guitar this shows that my target audiencealso have a tendency to like other genres of music as well such aspop and indie. Here I have included my mood board which showsall the things my reader is interested in.
