Q:What is the treatment for bingeeating disorder?A:
People with binge eating disordershould get help from a health careprovider, such as a psychiatrist,psychologist, or clinical social worker.There are several different ways to treatbinge eating disorder:
Cognitive-behavioral therapy
teachespeople how to keep track of theireating and change their unhealthyeating habits. It teaches them how tocope with stressful situations. It alsohelps them feel better about theirbody shape and weight.
 Interpersonal psychotherapy
helpspeople look at their relationships with friends and family and makechanges in problem areas.
 Drug therapy
, such as antidepressants,may be helpful for some people.Other treatments include dialecticalbehavior therapy, which helps peopleregulate their emotions; drug therapy with the anti-seizure medicationtopiramate; exercise in combination with cognitive-behavioral therapy; andsupport groups.Many people with binge eating disorderalso have a problem with obesity.
