Malpais
Head for Lanzarote´s capital cityof Arrecife this month to catchMalpais 2009. An eclectic streetfestival that encompasses livemusic, comedy, theatre, magic,children’s workshops and a wholelot more besides.The event runs all month throughuntil March 28th – and highlightsinclude performances fromBelgium’s very own Elastic Man.Whose comic contortions span a

Concert in the Caves
The Cuevas de los Verdes onceprovided sanctuary for islandersfrom pirate raids. Today, they areone of Lanzarote´s leading touristattractions by day – and a hugelyatmospheric concert venue bynight. The Canarian string quartetCuarteto Ornati will be appearingat the Caves on April 18th at21.00. Tickets (priced €15) areavailable from tourist information

Ironman
The world´s toughest triathlontouches down on Lanzarote onceagain this May 23rd. As over 1200
super t competitors battle it out
for a prize purse of $50,000 and amuch coveted slot at the premier Iron Man event in Hawaii.Entrants in this endurance eventundertake a 3.8km swim. Whichkicks off at 07.00 in the morningoff the main beach, PlayaGrande, in Puerto del Carmen.Before setting off around theisland on a mammoth 180km bikeride. Taking in some of Lanzarote´sbest known beauty spots. Thentopping all that off with a full42.2km marathon along theAvenida de las Playas in Puertodel Carmen. Phew!Such is the gruelling natureof this event that a sizeablepercentage of the participantsnever even make it across
the nishing line. Whilst even
