BACKGROUND
Neutrophil and monocyte are inflammatory cells played in the first

line defence mechanism. Lysis neutrophil and monocyte are very

dangerous, because they will release toxic proteolytic substances that will destroy the surround tissue. Therefore neutrophil and monocyte

viability are very important for performing their proper function to

comeback into such as Streptococcus viridans.

AIMS
To compare the effect of olive oil on the viability of neutrophil and monocyte which was exposed Streptococcus viridans. Determine the minimum concentration of olive oil that can affect the viability of neutrophil and monocyte exposed to Streptococcus viridans.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Heparinized peripheral whole blood Neutrophil and monocyte isolation (ficoll hypaque centrifugation)

Virgin olive oil

Olive oil 50%

Olive oil 25%

Control-HBSS

Analyzing neutrophil and monocyte viability (using trypan blue)

Exposed by Streptocossus viridans

RESULTS

group I (Extra-Virgin Olive Oil), group II (olive oil 50%), group III (olive oil 25%), group IV (control-HBSS).
