ISLAMABAD: Prime minister-designate Nawaz Sharif-led Pakistan Muslim League (N) would commemorate the 15th anniversary of the country's nuclear tests on Tuesday.
Sharif was the PM when Pakistan had carried out the tests on May 28, 1998, over a fortnight after India had done so despite international pressure, decline in foreign investment and trade.

PML-N's newly-elected parliamentarians and legislators would attend a ceremony this year in Lahore on May 28 to commemorate the event. Sharif, who would be sworn in as the PM for the third time in the first week of June, would be the chief guest. Within months of the tests, Sharif and his then Indian counterpart, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, had met and eased tensions with the inauguration of the historic Delhi-Lahore bus service in February 1999. Vajpayee had travelled on the bus to Lahore to sign the historic Lahore declaration espousing a commitment to dialogue, better trade relations, people to people contact and denuclearized of South Asia. Months later, then Pakistan army chief Pervez Musharraf masterminded the Kargil operation and deposed Sharif to derail the process. Sharif has vowed to hold an inquiry into the Kargil fiasco.

The nuclear issue prominently featured in PML-N's election campaigning . Its advertisements showed missiles and the Ras Koh Hills, where the tests were conducted in Baluchistan's Chaghi district. Following the tests, Sharif got replicas of missiles and the hills placed at squares across Pakistani cities. Sharif's rival Pakistan People's Party contradicted his party and credited its founder, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, for acquiring the nukes. "Sharif only pushed the button but is taking the credit," PPP leader Qamar Zaman Qaira had said. Another PPP leader, Rehman Malik, had claimed that the military had conducted the tests and Sharif was "scared" after he was informed about this.

As a Pakistani born, I am very proud of "Nuclear Tests" as it establishes a sort of nuclear parity ,with India, which is absolutely necessary,though this nuclear dimension in the sub-continent was introduced by India by conducting the test in 1974. Although I would like to have a nuclear free world ,but until that day ,let's us pray that world be safe from any and all nuclear mishap

Kargil like situation was not a real war where Pakistan didn't use its air power at all nor any side wanted to gain land or similar interest. When Pak will think it must use nukes then it will not be a game of ping pong, it will be dozens and dozens of Pak nukes homing into India leaving nothing behind to reply, even Indian nukes are not all that reliable and perfect. Delivery means are also doubtful.

To be wise after the event is only to cover up his bad deeds. He ca't wash his dirty hands by telling lies. Who mutilated the bodies of martyr Captain Kaliya and five more soldiers. These heartless fellows gouged their eyes and took out vital parts of their bodies and cut them to pieces to be handed over to us after months of brutality. How can he escape from the responsibility of all these inhuman and barbarous actions ? May be, you have realized that hate mongering against a peaceful neighbor is a mistake, but taking cover under lies is not the right way. Instead,if you have courage to own the mistake and apologize publicly to us and punish all those elements for the most inhuman and barbarous actions. Mr. Sharif be honest and if you are aspiring to improve relations,shun duplicity and solemnly pledge for true friendship !

In the same way they destroyed the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, which I suppose was a Mecca for Hindus and now they are refusing that there was no temple was existing there. Very recently they destroyed the Bamyan Buddha statue in Afghanistan. Just wait for another 25-50 years. They will refuse that one also and put the blame on the Russian communist forces that was trying to occupy Afghanistan from 1980-89. And worst part is that the present Muslim generation feels pride in that and follows ISLAM religiously and nothing can stop them. Even today the population of Muslims are rapidly increasing by population explosion and conversions and it is only a matter time, say in 50 years, they could emerge to be the single dominant community in India overtaking the Hindu population. After that we will witness what happened to the hindus, christians minorities in Pakistan, Kashmiri Pundits in Kashmir and Minority Hindus in Bangladesh. You must not allow this to happen. The politicians should realize this and stop pampering this Islamic community for Vote Bank. You should realize that India is the only Hindu country in the Entire world whereas their are many Islamic countries in the world. You should not allow yourselves to be dominated by the Islamist like you all did in the past and they looted and destroyed India. It is like a ticking Time Bomb.
