Why Attend the Wales PlanningConerence in 2009?

There has been much change inplanning policy and its delivery inWales, as has been the case acrossthe UK. As a result o the globaleconomic problems, planning alsonow fnds itsel operating within anew context. Given all this change,this year’s Conerence will ocus onthe eective delivery o the planningsystem in Wales.

In this, its second year, the Wales PlanningConerence brings together those involved indelivering planning in Wales, whether they are inthe public or private sectors, as well as those in thethird sector and the academic community; this is mytheme or the year – One nation, one proession.I am pleased that Jane Davidson, the AssemblyGovernment’s Minister o Environment, Sustainability& Housing, has once again agreed to address theConerence. We also welcome Leonora Rozee,Deputy Chie Executive o the Planning Inspectorate,to provide a valuable UK perspective. As wellas plenary speakers, there will be topic seminarscovering: the LDP evidence base, communityengagement, transport, housing and regeneration,energy and waste, retail and design. The aternoonsession will ocus on delivering planning in diculteconomic climate, including plenary speakers and aplenary debate.We are pleased this year to extend the Conerenceprogramme to include optional study tours aroundthe area and an evening networking event.I hope to see you at the Conerence.

Bu nier o newidiadau ym maespolisi cynllunio, a’r dull o’igyfwyno, yng Nghymru el yngngweddill y DU. Mae’r problemaueconomaidd byd-eang heyd yngolygu bod cyd-destun cynllunioyn newid. O ystyried yr holl newidhwn, bydd y Gynhadledd eleni yncanolbwyntio ar gyfwyno’r systemgynllunio yn eeithiol yng Nghymru.

Dyma ail fwyddyn Cynhadledd Cynllunio Cymru, aceleni bydd yn tynnu ynghyd y rheiny sy’n ymwneudâ chynllunio yng Nghymru, boed yn y sectorcyhoeddus neu’r sector preiat, yn ogystal â’r rheiny yn y trydydd sector a’r gymuned academaidd.Thema’r fwyddyn yw – Un genedl, un proesiwn.

Mae’n bleser genny roi gwybod bod Jane Davidson, y Gweinidog dros yr Amgylchedd, Cynaliadwyedd

Yn ogystal â siaradwyrgwadd, darperir seminarau pwnc yn traod: saildystiolaeth y Cynllun Datblygu Lleol (LDP), ymgysylltuâ’r gymuned, tranidiaeth, tai ac adywio, egni agwastra, manwerthu a dylunio. Bydd sesiwn yprynhawn yn canolbwyntio ar gynllunio yng nghyd-destun hinsawdd economaidd anodd, gan gynnwyssiaradwyr gwadd a chyfe i draod. Mae’n blesergennym ymestyn rhaglen y Gynhadledd eleni igynnwys teithiau astudio o gwmpas yr ardal adigwyddiad rhwydweithio gyda’r nos.

Monday 1st June

This year’s Conerence includes a choice o optionalstudy tours and an opportunity or networking witha wine tasting and inormal dinner.

Study Tours –2pm to 5.30pm

(times will vary per tour)

Study Tour 1:

The City o Newport: RiversideRegeneration

Led by Newport City Council and NewportUnlimited

This Tour provides a general overview o theregeneration programme underway in the Cityo Newport. The tour will include a presentationby Newport Unlimited’s Chie Executive, JohnBurrows, ollowed by a coach tour o the Riversidedevelopment sites, Wetlands Reserve, St Modwinssteel works and the Celtic Manor Resort.

Study Tour 2:

St. David’s 2, Cardi

Led by Cardi County Council and LandSecurities

This Tour provides a sneak preview o the St David’s2 retail led development. The Tour will include apresentation by Land Securities and Cardi Councilplanners, ollowed by a walking tour looking at thepublic realm, the new Library and the linkages toother parts o the City Centre shopping area.

Bydd y daith yn cynnwys cyfwyniadgan Bri Weithredwr Newport Unlimited, John Burrows,wedi’i ddilyn gan daith bws o’r safeoedd datblyguar lan yr aon, Gwarchoda Wetlands, gweitheydddur St Modwins a Gwesty’r Celtic Manor.
