It has been my experience in my walk with God, that I have fought many more
battles in my mind than in my flesh or circumstances. That may be in large part
due to the fact I’ve been a stay at home mom the past 4 years, since my daughter
was born, and believe me, I sympathize with those of you who live for God and
have to face wickedness in the work place and strive to live a holy life. When I got
on the computer this morning, and opened up my E-Sword, this is the scripture, in
Mark it opened to. As I read it, the Lord began to deal, and open my eyes to some
things. I felt a stirring in my spirit that drew me to dig into this. Because of what I
found, I’ve decided not to paraphrase as I usually do, when I relating the
definitions of these words. I’ve learned that when I look up the word, or phrase in
the original language sometimes, it causes me by default to consider carefully
what the Lord is saying in these scriptures. I hope you will carefully read and
consider the meaning of this word-and remember, it’s what we’ve been given
authority by the Lord to do to the devil and his works, which Jesus already
destroyed and defeated. (1 John 3:8) And if we are not careful, this is what the
devil will try to do to us, because if you have the Spirit of Christ in you and have
been born again, and you love the Word of God, and you believe what it says, then
you are a target. He will try to spoil your faith and steal it from you. He wants to
crush that life of Christ in you. But oh, Hallelujah, Greater is He that is IN me than
he that is in the world! (1 John 4:4).
1. To plunder; to strip by violence; to rob; with of; as, to spoil one of his goods or possessions.
2. To seize by violence; to take by force; as, to spoil ones goods.
3. To corrupt; to cause to decay and perish. Heat and moisture will soon spoil vegetable and animal
substances.
4. To corrupt; to vitiate; to mar.
5. To ruin; to destroy. Our crops are sometimes spoiled by insects.
6. To render useless by injury; as, to spoil paper by wetting it.
1. To practice plunder or robbery.
2. To decay; to lose the valuable qualities; to be corrupted; as, fruit will soon spoil in warm weather.
Grain will spoil, if gathered when wet or moist.
I just told you above what the enemy of your soul, this world, and the flesh wants to
rob you of. Did not Jesus say he was the thief who came to steal, kill and destroy? Oh,
his number one target is your faith in God’s promises and love for you. If you listen to
his lies, he can beat you down so badly, that he can render you useless to the kingdom
of God. He can render you powerless and infect you with unbelief-only if you continue
to listen to his lies, and if you listen and don’t put him on the run with the Word, he
will infect you. Even a baby Christian with faith in God’s word, can say “In Jesus’
Whatever the devil has stolen from you, whether it’s your peace, your children, your
spouse, time you’ve spent paralyzed with unbelief, instead of serving the Lord, you
CAN repent and seek forgiveness, and God can strengthen you and in faith you can
rise up and defeat your enemy, and take back what he’s stolen from you. And
exercising your faith and using the Word of God on him, pressing in through prayer,
why, you can get violent and tear down his strongholds, with the weapons of our
warfare which are not carnal. (2 Cor 10:4) Remember when David and his men were
out in enemy territory, fighting against the enemies of Israel, while living in Ziklag?
Remember when the enemy came in and burnt their city, their homes, and stole their
wives and children? And remember how every one gave in to despair, and just sat
down and cried and did nothing but mourn? What did David do? He heard them
threatening to stone him, blaming him, oh, it’s not fair, you know, we were serving
God and look what happened to us when we were out doing God’s business they took
everything! But David, didn’t give up. He got alone with God, and asked the Lord if he
could go after the enemy, and if God would deliver them into his hand. What did God
say? Yes, and you will recover all! David knew right then no one had perished. It
looked bad. Their homes had been burned down. Their families taken. They did not
know if they’d been tortured, killed, raped, or what. But God saw it all. And he told his
faithful servant, go after them! You’ll get them back. I’m with you! Is he any respecter
of persons? See Romans 2:11, and no he is not. You can read about this in 1 Samuel 30.
They were okay, and David got everyone back and spoiled the Amalekites as well.
There was so much spoil he sent presents back to the elders in Israel. Are you facing a
trial where you’ve got rebellious kids who won’t go to the Lord’s house and when you
leave to go to church, they indulge in things you know aren’t right? Got a spouse who
gets on the internet to look at ungodly things the minute you’re out the door to go to
God’s House? If you do, or if you’ve got a situation where the enemy has come in and
plundered your family, and is weighing you down with discouragement, you can fight
back! Take comfort in the scriptures, fortify yourself with the Word of God and
prayer, and fight back! Ask God to help you see past the person to the spirit that is
using them to try to take you down. Your prayers are their only life preserver. You
have the Word of God so raise the standard against the flood the enemy’s trying to
bring against your family. You’re already more than a conqueror, according to
Romans 8 if you’re a child of God. He gave his children who are obedient the power
over all works of the enemy. You’ve got power to tread on him, saints. Don’t let his
roar intimidate you! If you are under the blood that’s all he can do is lie and roar
because Jesus pulled his teeth 2000 years ago! If you stand on the Rock firm, he has to
flee. If you tell him in the name of Jesus to loose your loved ones and let them go, just
like Moses told the Pharaoh, oh, if you stand strong when he tries to put on his display
of his ‘power’ which is largely illusion, and don’t back down, he will have to give them
up! God showed us so many different ways in the Bible- every situation is covered! We
just need spiritual eyes and hungry hearts to see it! We have to be willing to spend
time digging for the treasure buried in the pages of the precious, priceless Book!
Isn’t God wonderful? You bet he is and that dirty devil doesn’t want you to see that or
trust in the Lord enough to find out for yourself just how awesome he is! Now then,
that word “spoil” can be used as a noun.
1. That which is taken from others by violence; particularly in war, the plunder taken from an enemy;
pillage; booty.
2. That which is gained by strength or effort.
3. That which is taken from another without license.
4. The act or practice of plundering; robbery; waste.
5. Corruption; cause of corruption.
6. The slough or cast skin of a serpent or other animal.
This is what we need to do to the lies of the enemy that has sewn unbelief and fear in
our hearts and minds, and caused us to not trust the promises of God are for us too,
and that have kept us from the rest and assurance and exploits that our Father meant
for us to have and do. Have you ever opened the word of God and felt a longing,
unsatisfied in your heart, for what you are reading? And on the heels of that longing,
has despair followed? This is often caused by fear and unbelief. I’ve felt it so many
times, I know what it’s like and it will paralyze and dry up your spiritual growth. It
will stunt you and cause you to be powerless. Just as the enemy was able to intimidate
the disciples in Mark 9, and render them powerless, he will us too, if we don’t stand
our ground.
Consider what a display this devil put on in front of these people. He went all out here,
to intimidate, and incite fear in their hearts. They saw this display of the powers of
darkness on this helpless child and were afraid. But saints, we are told repeatedly we
do not walk by sight, and we are not to judge after the sight of our eyes. If all you have
to stand on is the Word of God, that is all you need because it’s what is holding up this
planet on nothing in space right now! It’s not what you SEE that counts, it’s what HE
SAYS!!!!! It’s hard for us to remember that when confronted suddenly like this, and
put on the spot, as the disciples were (especially if you are not prayed up and read up
and not long out of the presence of God in the prayer closet-which we need daily) Has
it happened to you? Have you been faced with an angry and hostile person, on the job,
in your home, out in public, that just came from nowhere, and because it was
unexpected, and fierce, it left you flustered and you felt helpless in the face of the
verbal attack that assaulted you? And as defeat sank in, did you hear the mocking
voice in your mind, “But what about that power Christians are supposed to have?
Where’s yours? Hah! You’re a joke!” Does this sound familiar? I’m speaking from
experience, folks. This is a place we aren’t to visit too many times. This is a lesson we
need to learn quickly. FAITH is the fuel that ignites the promises of God to action.
