ABOUT THIS REPORT
Scope & Method
This report forecasts US water and wastewater pipe demand in meters to 2017. Theterms “water pipe” and “water and wastewater pipe” are used interchangeably in thisand related Freedonia Focus Reports unless otherwise stated. Total demand is segmented by product in terms of:
 plastic
 copper
 steel
 ductile iron
concrete and other products such as aluminum pipe and clay pipe. Total demand is also segmented by market as follows:
 building
 transmission and service
 sewer and drainage
irrigation and other markets such as raw water intake. To illustrate historical trends, total demand and the various segments are reported atfive-year intervals for 2007 and 2012. Total pipe demand (ie, including markets otherthan water and wastewater) is also provided for 2012. Forecasts emanate from theidentification and analysis of pertinent statistical relationships and other historicaltrends/events as well as their expected progression/impact over the forecast period.Changes in quantities between reported years of a given total or segment are typicallyprovided in terms of five-year compound annual growth rates (CAGRs). For the sake of brevity, forecasts are generally stated in smoothed CAGR-based descriptions to theforecast year, such as “demand is projected to rise 3.2% annually through 2017.” Theresult of any particular year over that period, however, may exhibit volatility and departfrom a smoothed, long-term trend, as historical data typically illustrate.Key macroeconomic indicators are also provided at five-year intervals with CAGRs forthe years corresponding to other reported figures. Other various topics, includingprofiles of pertinent leading suppliers, are covered in this report. A full outline of reportitems by page is available in the  Table of Contents.
