Jan 10We stayed in the Kathmandu Guest House. Current rates for standard room aresingle $25, double $30, triple $35. AC standard single $45, double $55, triple $65.
Jan 10The pre-paid taxi from the airport to Thamel was 450R (approximately 120R to thepound and 72R to the US dollar).
Jun 10, Charles Ruechel,The route across the Ngozumpa Glacier from Gokyo to Tagnag now starts acrossthe glacier directly at Gokyo. The old route shown on the map on page 96 is nowblocked by a lake or something and is no longer in use.
Jun 10, Charles Ruechel,You say it is impractical to trek to Gyazumba Tsho in one day from Gokyo -- notso! We are just ordinarily fit people (not athletes) and we found it very possibleand easy. We left at 8am and returned by 4:30pm allowing for many breaks for views, photos, snacks and lunch. There are amazing views from the 6th lake, totally different views than from Gokyo and Gokyo Ri, and we didn't even have torush to enjoy them. We would definitely recommend this day hike for a reallyintimate view of Cho Oyu and a peek into Tibet. In worst case, just turn aroundwhen you need to in order to make it back to Gokyo by dark.
Dec 09In the new version of the Trekking in the Nepal Himalaya the towns of Thare andThore are crossed, they are crossed on maps too - at least this is according to thelocals and the labels on the hotels in these towns.
Oct 10, Daniel T Jones,Under "Books", you state, in regards to "Annapurna: A Woman's Place", that thistells the story of, quote, "the first female ascent of an 8000m peak." This isincorrect. The first female ascent of an 8000 meter peak took place in 1974. Itconsisted of an all-female Japanese expedition which placed three women on thesummit of Manaslu. The 1978 ascent describe in the aforementioned book didhold the distinction of being the first female ascent of Annapurna I.
