Jeremy,

My son, weve had our differences in the past but Ive only done what I thought would help you. Ive trained you for what I thought you would need. Your leadership skills from high school sports and from the marines will help you. Look to those moments of your life for guidance. Dont let one poor choice guide you to a lifetime of misery. There are bigger and better things in life, Jeremy. I believe in you. Im sorry I couldnt be a better father. Ive failed you and Ive failed your mom. I only hope that you can be a better man than I was. Im leaving this world now. There is no place for me here. Do not follow my path. Get back into society and change your life. Try to get a waiver to get back into the marines. That will help you the most in this world. Knowing how to defend yourself will help you protect your family and those you love. Do not mourn for me. This is my decision. I have enclosed with this letter, three of my favorite rocks.

The blue one reminded me of peaceful water. The red one reminded me of a warm fire. The green one reminded me of fresh grass. Theres a place outside of Lake Tahoe that I used to take you as a boy. We would camp there on the edge of a lake for weeks at a time. If you want to think of me, go there with my rocks, see what I used to see and be happy. I will always love you, son.
