Highlights of Tamil Nadu State from December 2012 to March 2013.
In Vellore district preparations for getting Karyakarthas/new people started even sixmonths before. From more than 300 villages they nominated youths especially collegestudents average number being 25 from each village. Now more than 6000 youths aredoing some work or other instructed to them.2.
On January 12
Pushpanjali programme was organized in many places. Swamiji’s
portrait would be decorated in public places and people are asked to offer Pushpanjali. In Chennai market area coolies numbering more than 150 came forward
to do the Pushpanjali on behalf of them. They not only put forward their one day’s
earning for the expenses and for the whole day they were inviting people to thefunction.3.
Almost all VIPs of Vellore city, more than 300 people assembled before the Historicalfort on January 12
morning. Sri G. Viswanathan, President of the State Celebrations
Committee, Tamil Nadu was in the forefront. Whole city was decorated with Swmiji’s
Photo and Bhagawa flags. Nearly in 18000 places the programme was organized. Nodoubt to say people from all cross sections of the society took part in the event.4.
Right from the beginning Vivekananda Educational Society comprising of 20 schools inChennai took initiative in organizing the celebrations. In Perambur School alone nearly2500 parents did sankalpa on 25
In Salem nearly 23 political party leaders were approached by our karyakarthas to offer Pushpanjali on the Janma Din. 11 political party leaders including a Muslim, who arealiens in the political field, shared the same dais.6.
In one more school of VES, Chennai, parents thought about their contribution to thesociety in the 150
year and they decided to do temple cleaning work on a regular basis. In the process 26 neglected temples were selected and the work has alreadystarted in four temples.7.
A jail convict in Cuddalore prison came to know of the celebrations. He came out onparole b3efore 12
January for 5 days and organized a very good programme inChidambaram. When he went back to the prison he organized the Surya Namaskar programme among his jail mates. They paid from their own pockets for thearrangements and the programme has sent a holy message among the jail inmates.8.
For the Surya Namaskar programme many Chief Educational officers of the districtswere approached and they did issue circulars to the government schools to conductthe same. No doubt the programme was very useful to the students and the schoolteachers received our karyakarthas very well.9.
In Salem a special programme was conducted for college founders, presidents,secretaries and principals. 123 such persons participated and expressed their willingness to conduct programmes for the students in their respective colleges. ViceChancellor, Periyar University, Salem Sri Muthu Chezhiyan presided over the function
and told the gathering that an endowment lecture in the name of Swamiji will beorganized in the University.10.
In North Chennai a notorious area for criminals celebrated the Janma Din. The womenfolk of the locality participated in the Rangoli competition. The lanes were full of
colourful Rangoli and adorned with Swamiji’s portrait.
In software hub of Chennai, Pushpanjali programme was done by many technocrats.In TCS alone more than 150 new contacts were established.12.
In Pondicherry Chief Minister Sri N. Rangasamy inaugurated the Shoba Yatra by
offering pushpa to Swamiji’s portrait. It was a surprise for everybody that he came
before time for the function.13.
In Tiruppattur a special two day camp was organized for the students of 9
and 11
 class. In which 150 students took part enthusiastically. It is notable that a Christian anda Muslim management schools participated in the event and they welcomed thetraining programme.14.
In Nagarkovil a very big motor bike rally was organized on Janma Din from Nagarkovilto Kanyakumari in which more than 1300 motor bikes and more than 3000 youthsparticipated. Earlier many mini rallies started from many parts of the district andculminated at Nagarkovil. At Kanyakumari the programme concluded with ameeting addressed by Kshetra Pracharak Sri S

Surya namaskar pradarshan was organized at Nagarkovil. 3983students from 32 schools and two colleges did Surya Namaskar. The students had theopportunity of hearing a speech by Sri G. Viswanathan, President, State CelebrationCommittee.16.
In order to get more college students participation, a meeting of college faculties wasorganized at Coimbatore. 70 colleges and 400 professors were contacted and 42colleges were represented by 77 professors. Kshetra Sanghgchalak Dr. Vanniyarajanpresided over the meeting.17.
After his triumphant trip to the western countries Swamiji arrived at Ramanathapuramon 29
January 1897. To commemorate the event a rally was organized in which theRaja of Ramnad Sri Kumaran Sethupaty spoke on the occasion and recollected hisGrand Father Raja Bhaskara Sethupaty welcoming the Swamiji on the memorableday.18.
In Tanjavore suppose to be a tough rock for the Sangh work the Surya Namaskar programme came as a boon and the karyakarthas used the opportunity very well. Itwas conducted in more than 130 schools in which nearly 40000 students did SuryaNamaskar.19.
True to the Sangam tradition of Madurai monthly programme of Prabuddha Bharat isbeing organized. So far 2 programmes were conducted and nearly 400 elites ofMadurai are taking part.20.
In Tiruchy Sankalpa Din programme was a big success. It was conducted in 17 placesand 763 persons took the sankalpa to carry forward the message of Swamiji.
