OVERVIEW
Whena7.0magnitudeearthquakerockedHaitiat4:53pmonJanuary12,2010,itplungedhundredsofthousandsofHaitiansfromanalreadyprecariouslivingsituationintoalivingnightmare.Thedecadesofeconomicandpoliticalmarginalizationthatprecededtheearthquakeexacerbateditsdevastatingimpact,particularlyonthemostvulnerablesegmentsofthepopulation.Thankstotheoverwhelminggenerosityofitsmembersandthevisionofitsleaders,the
UnitarianUniversalistServiceCommittee(UUSC)
quicklymobilizedtorespond,establishingitsinitialprogramswithinafewweeksofthequake.Utilizingourmodelsofeye-to-eyepartnership,ofseekingoutthoseleftbehindbytraditionalaidreliefefforts,andofcollaboratingwithcreativeandcommittedpartnersonthegroundtocreateinnovativemodels,wewentbeyonddisasterrelieftoaddressthedeeperrootsofmarginalizationandaccompanyourresilientHaitianpartnersincreatingviablelong-termsolutions.Threeyearslater,ratherthanwindingdowntoexitHaitiaswewouldnormallydoafter2to3yearsofdisasterresponse,UUSChastakenthedecisiontobreaknewgroundbyholdingHaitiforthasamodelofhopeandresiliencyandcontinuetoaccompanyourHaitianpartnersinbringingaboutlastingchangethroughthemanypilotprojectswehavecreatedwhichcontinuetogrowandunfold.

Utilizeeye-to-eyepartnershipmodeltocreateinnovativeandreplicablemodelssuchastheEco-villagetoservethosewhoaremarginalizedoroverlookedbymainstreamreliefefforts
 
Strengthenlocalcapacitytospreadeffectivemethodologiessuchastraumaresilienceandtiregardens
 
Buildsolidaritybetweengrassrootspartnerswithinsectorsaswellasacrosssectors
 
Providerichanddiverseopportunitiesforconstituentstoengageinservicelearning,policyandmobilization
 
Utilizeanintegratedcross-departmentalapproachtobroadenimpactAswellascreatingmanypilotprogramsinHaiti,Haitihasservedasapilotprograminternallyaswell:1.
 
HaitiservedasoneoftheinitialtrialprogramsfortheIntegratedPlanin2011,tointegrateworkcross-departmentally.2.
 
ExpandingonthesuccessesoftheIntegratedPrograms,HaitihasbeenservingasoneofthepilotprogramsforUUSC’sEnhancedProgramPlanningsinceFebruary2012.

.Previouslyusedinruralsettingsbutnowbeingpilotedinanurbansettingby
BrightEducatorsofDelmas(GEAD)
startinginsummerof2012with48displacedfamiliesinadisadvantagedneighborhoodofPortauPrince.Theprojecthasbeenwildlysuccessfulandwillberipeforextensivereplicationinthespringof2013.
