I am passionate about local healthcare and its value to the community. I see rsthandevery day the dierence the people who work at Winona Health make in the lives o our amilies, riends and neighbors. In September, I unexpectedly became a patient o our local and regional healthcaresystems. While driving home rom a conerence, I lost my vision. Fortunately, mycolleague saely guided us to the side o the road. She wanted to take me to thehospital, but, o course, I “elt ne.” However, hearing the concern in her voice, I calledone o our local physicians who advised me to be seen immediately; since I was inRochester, he told me to stop in the ER there. So I did. It was still unclear what hadhappened, as my initial tests came back ne. I was kept overnight or more tests, andthe physicians diagnosed a small stroke. Further tests identied a hole in my heart(rom birth) rom which a clot had escaped, so I had a procedure to close the hole. Thanks to advanced medical technology, clinical protocols, and skilled physicians andsta in both Winona and Rochester, my healthcare experience had a great outcome.I am ne, healthy and back to my normal activities. I know rsthand the vulnerabilitya patient eels. And I also know rsthand the eeling o care and compassion thatcan only come rom those who have made a commitment to patients/residents. The stories you will read in this Annual Report resonate in my heart as I am sure theywill in yours—this is real lie.In addition, my advocacy or high quality, local healthcare and strong regionalrelationships has grown, and my personal commitment to Winona Health’s missionhas taken on a deeper meaning. All o us who work or our community healthcaresystem pledge to continue improving our patients’ healthcare experiences. Pleaseknow that your support and patronage o our healthcare services is deeply appreciated.
